Mob Wives: The Support of a Mob Daughter

Mob Wives fans in line to meet & have their Mob Daughter books signed by author.
Staten Island Live was there for Karen Gravano's Barnes & Noble book signing event Wednesday 29th February 2012.  Jillian Jorgensen wrote up a good article of the event, click here to read.  One fan said, "I got the book because she's on Mob Wives.  And I watch that show every Sunday with my mom.  And honestly I think she's just, she's the star of the show...."

Now a lot of people know by now I have mad love for Karen Gravano & Renee Graziano.  They are entertaining to me & authentic.  When season 1 of Mob Wives ended they were my favorites.  We are now over the half way mark of season 2.  Karen & Renee are still my favorites.  We have some seemingly angry readers who take issue with who I like.  They've even tweeted & commented that I'm unfair.  I like who I like.  What does fairness have to do with it?  Last year, I even offered pro Drita fans to submit their work for consideration in joining our team.  I thought is would be great for the site to have a Drita fan.  It was crickets.  Chiara did like Drita at the time.  Once Drita started tweeting folks we were ran by Karen, later it turned into we were BFFs of Karen & Ramona, Chiara was insulted!  If one doesn't like what I tweet or blog,  they DO NOT have to read it.  I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone because it's not mandatory for anyone to visit this blog or follow me on Twitter.

I'm glad some fans faced the rain to support Karen Gravano of Mob Wives.

Mob Wives: Mob Daughter & Love

Author Karen Gravano poses with long time friend Love Majewski!
I Married A Mobster & Deadly Sins' Love Majewski is no stranger to the lifestyle.  She is also no stranger to Karen Gravano.  Love & Karen were childhood friends.  They shared clothes, big hair and memories through their teenage years.  So I was delighted when Love Majewski tweeted some pictures of Mob Daughter's author at her most recent book signing.  One has to love some Barnes & Noble.  Well actually you don't have to.  I do.

I feel for her hands.  I wonder if Salvatore 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano's baby girl gets writer's cramp.  One thing I can write about some of the Mob Wives is they seem to have some loyal friends.

In e-mail I asked Love to explain her take on Karen's success.  She wrote the following:

"The Staten Island Barnes & Noble Mob Daughter book signing was a success for Karen!  Several hundred books sold & signed it would appear that S.I. has  welcomed her home with open arms & wallets!  I was so happy for my friend.  I cannot express what it feels like, I've always loved & believed in Karen.  She's now doing what I knew she could!"

Renee has Nikki!  Drita has Carla!  Carla has her hair.  Bigg Ang has Louis!  Karen has Ramona onscreen & offscreen plus she has Love Majewski in her corner.  One can't go wrong when they have true friends.  We are wishing Karen Gravano continued success in all her future legitimate endeavors.  Miss Gravano has made The New York Best Seller's List for the second week in the row.  Congratulations Karen!

I hope Love Majewski's French Bulldog Winston is recovering from his unfortunate accident.  He had a fight with a bush.  The bush won.

Off topic: Where the hell is Joshy?  I think Crystal may have the boy in some sort of love trance.

Mob Wives: Mob Daughter Book Release Party Video!

The author poses with her book Mob Daughter.
I wasn't there.  I never get invited or evited anywhere.  However, The Mob Wives Blogspot was in the house never the less.  Chiara gets invited everywhere.  I'm truly pleased 'we' were in the house for Karen Gravano's Mob Daughter release party.

The Greenhouse was packed last night with those who love & support Karen Gravano of Mob Wives.  Some Mob Wives were missing in action.  I imagine many of you can guess who did not attend.
I see Chiara!

One of my favorite pictures from the night was Ramona Rizzo, Mob Daughter author Karen Gravano, Renee Graziano and Angela Raiola a.k.a. Bigg Ang posing for the cameras.

Mob Wives Ramona, Renee and Angela supporting their fellow mob wife.
Chiara came across a quick video capturing a bit of the party plus a few words from Miss Gravano.  Chiara is all pooped out from being a party girl.  So I decided to put it up for those who are interested.  I see Chiara was staying close to the action.  I just adore her so.  Seeing Chiara in the video tickled me so.  One can even see the sexy Love Majewski of Deadly Sins & I Married Mobster make her way through the party.  Underboss is going to be so very disappointed that all his fantasy women put away their cleavage for the night.

Mob Wives: Karen's Book Release PARTY!

The "evite"!

I feel very honored that I was evited to Karen Gravano’s book release party last night! It was AMAZING. It was held in NYC at the Greenhouse, a beautiful club with great music by DJ WHOO Kid. I honestly don’t know where to start, but here goes.

As I go to enter the club, I am asked for my name to check the guest list. When I say Chiara Soprano, it brings a smile to the girl’s face, who promptly finds my name and allows me to enter with my daughter. Before entering I have to sign a “release” and I am thinking, they are shooting footage for Mob Wives tonight and I might end up on the show! Wouldn’t that be crazy? When I enter the club the first person I see is Big Ang! The club is practically empty so I run over and introduce myself and ask if she will take a picture with my daughter. Big Ang was very sweet and gracious. She took off her mink coat and went to pose with my daughter for a great picture that she could bring to work and show her friend, who is crazy about Big Ang!

As we are standing there waiting, Renee and AJ walk into the club. She is smiling and I already know who the life of the party is going to be. Renee starts dancing every time she hears a note! Renee sees me and runs right over to give me a hug and a kiss! It’s like we are family. She calls AJ over to introduce us, because she knows I love him, and I introduce her to my daughter. It’s so exciting! AJ gives me a hug and kiss like I’m an aunt at a holiday party. I love that kid!

Renee and Big Ang waiting for Karen to arrive.

Then, there is a commotion gathering at the entrance and what we see next is Ramona walking in like a star on a red carpet runway. She looks gorgeous and she says hello right away. Soon after, I spot Jennifer Graziano and she stops a minute to say hello and meet my daughter. Jennifer is looking slimmer since starting her diet! She looks great!

The next person I see walk in is Love Majewski, from I Married A Mobster. Love is a long time friend of Karen’s and she looks fantastic. By now I am kicking myself for forgetting my camera! We are still waiting for Karen, and Love introduces me to Karen’s brother Gerard. He was such a gentleman and you could see he was full of love and pride for his sister. Of course, Lisa Pulitzer, who assisted with the book, was also there.

Lisa Pulitzer with Karen!

A little after 8 PM the guest of honor, Karen Gravano, is announced and walks into the room. She looks strikingly stunning in her purple gown and bling. I loved her dress. She is trying to say hello to everyone there and stops to give me a hug. I congratulate her on her book and wish her success.

The Mob Wives spend the evening dancing and mingling with guests. They all know how to have a good time. Men with huge cameras are running all over the place, weaving in and out of the crowd, trying to catch every conversation. I almost got “boomed” a couple of times myself.  I’m sure we will all get to see some of that footage on the show. This is a major event for Karen, and they will have to incorporate it into the storyline.

Karen mingling with Guests!

A little after 9 PM, Ramona gets up to say a few words for her dear friend, Karen. She is proud of her for writing the book and says that Karen has made a few mistakes in life, but it has made her who she is today. Karen takes the microphone and thanks everyone for coming and welcoming her back. She looks radiant when she says, “I’m an author.” A lot has gone into the writing of this book. Karen has had to examine her whole life in the process, where she came from and where she is now, and she feels she has come full circle by being back in Staten Island. Then Jennifer has a few words to say about her close friend, Karen. She lovingly says that she doesn’t think Karen made mistakes, just a few missteps.

Ramona, Renee and Big Ang!

Ramona, Renny and Florina of Bad Girls Club

From what I saw last night, there was a lot of love there for Karen. Renee, Ramona, and Jennifer were so happy for her, and proud of her. You could see it in their smiles and their eyes. Whatever differences they may have on the show, there is an obvious close and loving bond that these women share that will never be broken. They share so much more such as growing up in a lifestyle that most people just read about or see on television and film. They are wives, mothers, sisters, friends. They know the pain of having loved ones sent to prison.  They belong to the same cultural background where raising your voice or screaming doesn’t have to mean you’re angry, but passionate about what you have to say.

Karen was surrounded by love last night by people who are proud of her accomplishment and success. It may have been called a book release party, but what I saw was a celebration of Karen and her life and an outpouring of love and affection by all.

Best of Luck with your book Karen, but from the sound of the reviews, I don't think you'll need it!

PS If I find more pictures, I may post a part 2 Blog so you can get more glimpses of everyone!

Karen has a BOOK SIGNING today! If you missed the party and want your book signed, please visit her at Tribeca Barnes and Noble at 97 Warren Street in Tribeca, NYC at 6 PM

Mob Wives: Growing Up Gravano

Karen’s interview tried to cover a lot of things in less than 20 minutes. I’m glad I write for the blog and knew more details to fill in the blanks. I wish they had given her more time, but I will recap some of what they covered.

Karen’s father, Sammy “The Bull” Gravano committed or was involved in 19 murders. Karen is asked what kind of father was he? Karen says, “He was a great father.” He was always at their bedside when they were sick and he was at dinner every night. She thought he was in the construction business. And he really was in construction. Sammy controlled all the unions that built New York City.

When Karen first heard the word gangster, she took it as a positive thing. The reason is that she and a classmate passed by a very large house, almost a mansion, and the friend said to her, “you see that big house, a gangster lives there.” So Karen associated the word with being a good thing.

They discuss the 1982 murder of Frank Fiala. Karen was ten years old at the time and asked her father if she could have a sleepover with a friend that night. Sammy told her it wasn’t a good time, as he tucked a gun in his pants. Later that night Frank Fiala was found dead. Karen was just a kid and says she didn’t know how t react to what her father was doing.

Her father was her protector, her provider, her friend. At Karen’s Sweet 16 Party her father introduced her to John Gotti as “Uncle John.” Gotti handed her an envelope with ten $100 bills. When Karen graduated high school, her father bought her a flower shop and it became a booming business.

On December 16th, 1985, Paul Castellano was killed. She knew her father was involved. People were glorifying it at the time.

In 1991 Sammy Gravano was in a New York prison. He was the underboss of the Gambino crime family. He told Karen he was going to cooperate with the authorities. She was always taught “you never tell” and now he was going against everything he taught her to believe in. Karen says that when her father turned informant she felt her dad was betraying her, how could he do this? She couldn’t deal with the betrayal. He was a “rat” and that was worse than his killing 19 people. None of her friends were allowed to talk to her. She was so upset Sammy almost reneged on the deal with the government.

Sammy was also involved in the murder of her uncle, her mother’s brother. His defense was that when you join the mob you take an oath to kill if you have to. Karen says they don’t talk about it. When Sammy is done serving his time the family moves to Arizona.

In Arizona, Sammy starts a new construction business and Karen says she felt more comfortable “being bad.” Sammy revert to crime by financing a drug ring and having his own “family” He is currently serving time for that. Karen’s brother, Gerard, got 9 years and Karen and her mother each got house arrest for their involvement.

Today, Karen is a single mom with an 11 year old daughter, Karina. She divides her time between New York and Arizona. Sammy is due to be released from prison in 2019. While in prison he creates art. They show some of his work, he is very talented. Karen never knew how artistic he was. Sammy doesn’t like the show Mob Wives and always calls Karen the day after it airs and says, “ Watch your mouth” or “Why  are you cursing on TV?”

They ask Karen if her father is still capable of murder? She says yes, if someone tried to hurt her he would kill them in a minute, but he doesn’t want to kill people.

That concludes the interview.

If you want to know more about Sammy Gravano’s life in the mob, you can read his book Underboss. Karen’s book, Mob Daughter, is coming out Tuesday, February 14th and it promises to be a best seller! Below I am posting a link to the blog on Sammy Gravano’s interview with Diane Sawyer that took place years ago.

Mob Wives: Mob Daughter, Chapter 1

Karen Gravano’s book, Mob Daughter, is due to come out on February 14th 2012.  The exciting news is that her first chapter is on her face book page, the one labeled “Entertainer” and you can read the entire chapter online right now.  I went straight over to the webpage as soon as she tweeted it was available and read it. I have to say I was very impressed with it and if the rest of the book is anything like Chapter 1we are going to love it.  This is best seller material!  I will provide the link below.

Chapter one deals with Karen’s childhood and how she came to suspect that her father might be in the mob.  There were clues there like men kissing each other on the cheek, the gun she found under her parent’s bed, the fact Paul Castellano was her father’s friend.
Karen would start putting two and two together.  Most people don’t give kids enough credit for knowing what is going on, but kids always know more than you think.

Here are a few words from chapter one and you can go over to Karen’s Facebook and read the entire chapter…an early Christmas gift to fans!

Karen has just asked her father, Sammy Gravano, if she can have a friend sleep over and the following conversation takes place:

“Not to night. You can have one over the weekend. And I can’t talk about this right now. I gotta go.” His eyes were cold; I felt as if he was looking through me. He spoke really quickly, his mind clearly somewhere else. He grabbed a pair of black leather gloves off the top of his dresser and brushed by me.

I followed him into the hallway, watched him stomp down the stairs, and called after him,   “Why do you need the gloves? It’s the middle of the summer.” I knew in my heart that something bad was about to happen, and I was terrified."

If you want to read what came before and after this scene, head over to the link below.  Meanwhile, you can preorder your copy of Mob Daughter on Amazon and make sure you don’t miss out on this great offer for what is sure to be a best seller.
