Mob Wives: Our Interview with Marissa Jade

A new Mafia Princess

I just got off the phone with the beautiful Marissa Jade, one of the new cast members to join the cast of Mob Wives for Season 6.  Here's what she had to say . . .

Hi Marissa, this is Chiara from M.O.B Wives Blospot.

Hi

I just want to thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Fans are very excited about Season 6 and the "new" mob wives. Can you tell me how did it come about that you were cast for the show?

My boyfriend's cousin's wife is close to all the girls on the show. They have known each other for years. One day she said to them, I know someone who would be great for the show, and they introduced me to Jennifer Graziano.

Can you tell us exactly what your mob ties or connections are?

My boyfriend is in the lifestyle. He is close to Renee's family. He also grew up with Lee D'Avanzo and they are long time friends. I have always been around the lifestyle, but my affiliation is through my boyfriend.

Marissa with her crew

We can see that everyone in the cast has issues with someone. You seem to have problems with Drita and Brittany. What if anything can you tell us about that?

I never had any intentions of being on the outs with anyone. I came into this season giving everyone a fair shot. But, if you show a side of yourself that is questionable, it shows me I can't trust you. I have no time for nonsense and two-faced people.

We can see you don't have time for much, you seem very busy in your career modeling, acting and even the comic, "Destiny: Queen of Thieves."

Yes I do have a lot on my plate. I book my modeling gigs through agencies and I do a lot of promotional events for the comic where I mingle with fans. I am very excited that the comic is going to be made into a live action movie in 2016 and I will be playing the lead character.

Is there anything you can tell us about your filming experience with Mob Wives and the drama?

I didn't expect anything less from being on the show.  I experienced a lot of this type of drama as a teenager, but I didn't expect to relive it with mature women.  I am focused on my life and career and I don't have time for bullsh*t.

Marissa in the "Green Screen"
Wonder what she was saying!

What surprised you the most about season 6?

Nothing surprised me. The ones I thought would be troublemakers, turned out to be trouble makers. But, I enjoyed myself and 99% of the time I had fun and laughs.

Can you give us any hints about what we can expect to see? I have to ask because fans want to know and Jennifer tells us nothing.

(laughs) Expect to be entertained. You can expect that the truth and people's true colors will come out this season.

Well thank you for your time and I hope you have a Happy New Year.

Thank you, Happy Holidays.

******

Marissa is very pleasant and comes across as a down to earth, no nonsense, straight shooter.  Even on her social media you get the sense of how focused she is on her career. I think she is going to bring a lot to the table in Season 6.

Don't forget the Season Premiere is January 13th at 8 PM and will be 2 hours long!

Mob Wives: Ang & Drita's Take on Season 5

In this interview, Drita and Ang talk about Season 5 from their perspective. Their comments were so fascinating that instead of recapping I decide to create a little transcript of the relevant parts. Oy Vey.

It all starts with a question about Renee and bada bing, bada boom . . .

Big Ang: “We know each other’s family, but after Renee’s behavior this season we are definitely not family.”

Drita: “Someone saw Renee and confused her for Big Ang and said ‘Hi Ang’ and Renee answered “Don’t associate me with that clown.”

Drita: “In truth, Renee doesn’t get along with a lot of people. Renee had fights with Karen, she didn’t even like Karen, I’m the reason why they talk.”She ripped Karen, she called her father a rat, she did exactly what Gnatalie is doing. I make you guys friends cause I said like each other, like each other. And when I blinked my eye they turned on me. So let’s be real and let’s call a spade a spade. So what the f*ck is everyone talking about, this circle, this circle? This is the most banged up . . .”

Big Ang: “It’s more like a f*ckin’ Bermuda triangle.”

Drita: “Now Karen, all I did when I made her make up with Renee, was fight with her for three f*ckin’ years. So what friendship is everybody talking about? It’s beyond me, I have no idea what show I’m watching this season. And, Gnatalie comes along. They don’t like Gnatalie. The last three years they don’t like me. Now I had fights with Karen in the past and then Ang came on the show and hung out with her. Did I ever say to Ang why are you hanging out with them? I know Ang since I’m 16.  No. Let it be what it is. You have a fight with Gnatalie, settle it on your own time. Don’t fight with us because we’re talking to someone you don’t like."

Ang: “They wanted us to take sides.  I’m fine with Renee now. She apologized. That’s all she had to do. She probably didn’t mean it, but whatever. I’m fine with it, I’m over it."

Drita: “You know how many times Rene said, you now Gnatalie how can you talk to her, she talks about my family. Renee talked about my family. Karen talked about my family."

If you want to cut to the chase go to the 4:40 mark and sit back!

Mob Wives: Is Gnat Thinking of Leaving?

Gnat is considering leaving the show???

Now what? Gnatalie just did an interview with VLADTV and she claims she may no longer be on the show. Of course she leaves room for the possibility open if "the price is right." Gnat claims she is the one South Philly loves and Natalie D has a bad reputation! Check out this little video for yourself!

Mob Wives: Natalie Didonato FOX29 Interview

A few days ago, Natalie Didonato was interviewed by FOX29's Good Day Philadelphia. Natalie has become a celebrity almost overnight, even before making her debut on Mob Wives, January 7th. The previews of upcoming scenes from the show were enough to peek fans' interest in this new cast member. Now we can hear exactly what Natalie has to say about season 5 of Mob Wives and what she is bringing to the table.

Natalie D says she was born and raised in South Philly and attended Temple University for Real Estate. The show has opened a lot of doors for her already. The down side of being on the show is that her demons are coming out. She is not a big fan of Gnatalie. I get the impression that is an understatement. Natalie chats about her recent charity event and various projects she is working on. This little clip gives us a nice glimpse into her personality.

Mob Wives: Jenn Graziano Dishes on Season 5

Renee & Jennifer showing some sisterly love!

AfterBuzz TV caught up with Jennifer Graziano, Executive Producer of Mob Wives, to get some insider information on Season 5. Jennifer, a believer in the good old tradition "lifestyle values, picks and chooses her words carefully. The Omerta Code of silence is very much alive. Still, AfterBuzz managed to get her to talk for a good 12 minutes about the show, the cast and other gems. You'll have lots of time to listen to it because there will be no Mob Wives for two weeks, thanks to Christmas and New Year's Eve. the show will resume on January 7th, 2015 and it will be Natalie Donato's debut appearance. Jenn discusses a little about how they "discovered" Natalie and decided to bring her on the show. I gathered from the interview that Victoria Gotti will be meeting Renee and Big Ang for lunch, continuing where we left off in episode three. There is a lot to look forward to! Jenn begins talking at about the 1:43 mark (almost at the very beginning) and continues for 12 minutes. Check this out, you won't be disappointed.

Mob Wives: Karen Gravano AfterBuzz Interview!

Karen's Back!

AfterBuzz TV Aftershow interviewed Karen Gravano on Wednesday night, after Mob Wives aired. Karen had plenty to say too. First she talks at great length about GNATalie and doesn't know what to attribute her problems to. Karen feels it may have something to do with her alleged drug use possibly affecting her brain. Karen discusses how Storm and London both had the same story about what happened at the nightclub the night they met. GNATalie is the one suffering from delusions saying they were being threatened. Karen seems to be a little disappointed in Ang and Drita because they don't seeGNATalie for what she really is . . . trash. Obviously GNATalie doesn't respect them because she keeps talking about Karen and Renee to Ang and Drita and they are supposed to be friends. Karen doesn't allow people to talk about her friends.

Karen says she and Storm are close, he has her back. They have their ups and downs, like any couple, but for the most part things are going well.

The interview starts around the 6 minute mark and lasts a good ten or more minutes. You will hear Karen's take on what is going on this season. And, the best part of the interview is when Karen is asked will there ever come a time when Gnat isn't running away and Karen isn't chasing her, and they come face to face? Karen says yes! And maybe then Karen will put her in her place!

Mob Wives: Karen & Jenn Graziano on Season 5

Karen Gravano and Jennifer Graziano, Executive Producer, discuss Karen's departure and return to the show with Bossip. Fans earnestly requesting Karen's return to the show seems to have played a part in bringing Karen back. Renee, who was more than emotionally exhausted after season 4, is thrilled to have Karen back for season 5. Finally, Renee has someone she can trust 100%.

Best of luck to Jenn Graziano for a very successful season 5. From what I have seen and heard, this promises to be the best season yet. There will be no shortage of drama and a few surprises that have not been sprung. Stay tuned! Watch the premiere of season 5 on Wednesday, December 3rd (tomorrow) on VH1 at 9 PM. As always, we will have recaps and more all season long.

Mob Wives: Renee Responds to Drita’s Reunion Attack!

In yet another candid interview with Global Grind, Renee Graziano finally expresses her thoughts about the way Drita attacked her at the Season 4 Reunion Show. I have been waiting to hear Renee’s point of view, which is similar to mine. She doesn’t understand why Drita went back to complain about events that occurred during season one and two. On top of that, Renee and Drita were never really “at odds” and Renee feels she has always had Drita’s back. Why Drita threatened to crack her head is a mystery to Renee, who is not a fighter. Renee is done. She does not consider Drita a friend, just a co-worker. That being said, Renee is open to an apology, if Drita ever wants to explain why she came at her so aggressively.

As far as Natalie goes, there is no relationship at all. Her attack on Renee’s relapse was basically unforgivable. Natalie called Renee out on her addiction and yet she was one of the people “partying with her.”

As for Ang, she wishes she would have given her more support than she did with the other girls talking about her behind her back. Renee discusses what happened in Vegas and why.

Renee's new mantra seems to be "Don't speak my truths and expect me to hide your lies."

Rumors about Renee getting her own show? A couple of things are in the works, but there is very little revealed right now.

Mob Wives: Renee Interview Causes Twitter Beef?

Renee answering questions honestly

It was brought to my attention that more than a few snarky tweets were out there by members of the Mob Wives cast recently. Apparently, Renee did an interview back on April 10th with Zach Sang and the gang, and some of the “ladies” have just gotten around to watching it. To say they were less than pleased with Renee’s blunt honesty is an understatement. Renee took this opportunity to answer questions concerning season four, the cast and her feelings about whether or not she would return to season 5. To properly get the impact of the tweets and to be clear about what is being referred to, you should watch the video first. For example, in the tweets it isn’t totally clear who Drita is pissed at for not having the name of her store, “Lady Boss,” roll off the tip of her tongue. But, if you watch the video, you can see that Renee has a bit of a memory lapse when she tries to come up with the name of Drita’s store. I didn’t think it was a big deal myself, but Drita’s claws came out over it. Here is the video:

I’ve watched the interview twice and I didn’t hear anything outrageous or untrue expressed by Renee to warrant these comments flying back and forth on Twitter. I’m sure others may have a different opinion, obviously the cast does. Now here are the tweets:

Natalie starts things off with a bang and a link to the video

Alicia chimes in, Goddess that she is

Drita has the most to say over a memory lapse

Renee responds to the war of words

Drita takes her last shot

And there you have it. Is this a sneak peek into the drama of season 5? Drita certainly went ballistic at the reunion show of season 4 and blindsided Renee with a barrage of accusations going back to the first three seasons. We know now that Alicia has resigned and I cannot for the life of me see Natalie coming back . . . so now what? If I were the executive in charge of this production I would certainly do whatever it takes to bring back Karen Gravano. Hell, make her an offer she can't refuse! Let's get Mob Wives back on track with "real and reality!" Get rid of the loud mouth, vulgar, 80% naked SOUTH Philly funeral home cosmetician who makes up dead people and has no mob ties. And don't find another lying Philly wise gal who can't decide if she is guilty of embezzlement or not; who is forever crying over her ex-husband cheating but is also cheating on him herself with a married man; who claims poverty, but is decked out in jewelry from head to toe; who wants to pay back $20,000 even though the amount allegedly stolen was closer to three million. There are legitimate mob wives out there, so let's find a couple of them who are willing to be real and tell their stories.

Mob Wives: Renee & Jenn Answer Show Questions!

Renee & Jenn Team Up for show questions!

Another long interview, over an hour long to be exact, of the Graziano sisters by AfterBuzz TV focusing on the show. The first thing they do is tease Renee about the word "delicious!" Just when you think we are done with it, it rears it's ugly head again. But, Renee wields her little meat cleaver and implies she will use it! There is a big discussion about the word and Renee explains her point of view. So the interviewer wants to know why Renee wasn't bothered when Natalie sang her song at the book party. Renee says Natalie is a joke and Jenn adds by then Renee was over it and didn't want to cause a scene because it was her night. Renee explains there we things behind the scenes we didn't see that also added to the escalation of the issue.

At one point Renee says, "F*ck Al Capone" and
Jenn's expression is priceless!

So many topics were touched on in detail including: Renee's addiction and recovery, the jealousy of the Philly girls coming in season 4, production "amping up" the new girls to create drama, how Renee believes new production instigated a situation between her and Alicia, Renee's real feelings about Alicia, Alicia dragging her name into her business and false accusations, Renee's relationship with Eddie, their father Anthony Graziano, Junior and abuse, Drita's outburst on the Reunion and her theory about it, how she is hurt and disappointed in Drita, other shows and projects and so much more. When you have the time watch the interview, it's actually better than the show!

Mob Wives: Jenn Graziano Finally Answers Questions!

Jennifer, looking lovely, as always

Jennifer Graziano, Executive Producer and Creator of Mob Wives, was interviewed by AfterBuzz TV this week. She doesn't do interviews often so I was surprised to see this 30 minute interview that answered some of viewers burning questions. She tells us how her passion for writing and desire to be involved in television lead to her success with Mob Wives and her association with VH1. She explains how she chose the Original Girls for season one. As for having her sister, Renee, on the show she says when it involves Mob Wives, she is Renee's boss and treats her like everyone else. She answers some questions I had and you'll have to watch to find out what she says about things like...

Why didn't she send Renee home from Vegas when it was obvious she was in trouble?

Is there backlash from the mob or community from the show?

Jenn finally tells us WHY weren't Carla and Karen in season 4?

How has this situation affected her friendships with Karen, Ramona, Love and Carla?

She discusses Renee fighting on the Vegas trip and Alicia's sentencing.

Where did she find Natalie and how is she "related" to the mob?

What about any more spin offs for other cities or cast members?

What other projects does she have going on?

When does season 5 film and air?

Is Karen coming back?

Is Natalie gone?

Will there be new cast members in Season 5?

Mob Wives: Renee Graziano Leaving Season 5?

Renee being interviewed by Power 106

Can you believe this? Renee says there is a chance she may not return to Mob Wives in season 5! She is tired of the fighting and people being jealous of her position in the show. Renee sounds sincere and worn out from the drama. If you want my opinion, I think Renee will be back in all her glory. Renee has been at the center of much of the real drama, especially in season four. Season four was comprised of: Natalie, a no mob ties, half naked, cosmetologist who works her magic on dead people; Alicia, a lying, crying, blinged up wise gal who wouldn't know the truth if it slapped her in the face; Drita, a storyline filler with her "stalker," "bully," "rapping," "modeling," BS; and Big Ang, with her "Build A Baby" Workshop comedy routine.

Then we have Renee, who suffered a serious relapse on the air, with the cameras rolling. Renee who co-authored "How To Use A Meat Cleaver" and authored an erotic mob novel, "Playing With Fire." Renee who started up her real "Mob Candy" business. Renee who may have some real and serious issues with Junior in the future (even if i don't think those letters were real, just sayin'). So without Renee in season five we may as well throw reality out the window!

Let's get rid of the Philly girls! And, if we have to tolerate another season of Alicia, please bring back Karen Gravano so she can tell her off and keep her honest! That's what we want to see. Not another season of Alicia dripping in tears and jewelry!

Now watch Renee's Interview at Power 106 and see what you think!

Mob Wives: Jenn Graziano Cookbook Interview!

Embedded image permalink

Chiara dubbed me the "Mob Chef," so it's only natural that I am very interested in "How To Use A Meat Cleaver," by the Graziano Girls! I can't wait for the book to come out so I can try all the recipes. I will even blog a couple of them and let you know my expert opinion. In the meantime, I tracked down Jenn Graziano so she could answer a few questions about their book while we wait for the February 4th launch date!

Thank you Jenn, for graciously taking time out of your busy schedule to answer what we need to know!

Jenn, please describe your cookbook, "How To Use A Meat Clever," and what readers should expect.

Obviously, by the name,  you can tell it is a tongue in cheek approach to our lives and what is in our kitchens!  However, the recipes are as authentic as they come. They are recipes passed down from our grandmother to us, as well as some from friends and family along the way.  We pay homage to all of the cooks in our lives who we have come across and what they have taught us. But mostly these are family recipes straight from Italy.  Something you would eat if your grandmother was cooking it herself!

How is this cookbook different from all the ones already out there?

In addition to recipes, we share with the reader unique, funny, and heart felt family stories centered around food - like how Renee once ran out of bread and used potato chips in her meatballs instead or how to sneak meatballs into prison.  The stories give you an inside look into how we grew up, how we eat, and how we are a family.

What was the earliest age each of you started cooking?

My grandmother and I used to make the chicken cutlets together starting when I was about 4 or 5 years old.  I always enjoyed breading them and getting my finger tips full of bread crumb.  Lana started very early as well, and did the most cooking as she was the oldest and some times responsible for cooking for me and Renee.  Renee cooked a lot with my dad starting when she was about 7 or 8.

Where or from whom do your recipes come from?

Mostly from our maternal grandmother, dad, mom, cousin Jimmy, and for me - even Big Ang!!

Lana and Renee whack a filet!

Who would you say has the best culinary skills?

Lana by far has the best culinary skills of the three of us.  She has owned and operated several restaurants - some where she even cooked herself.  Her last restaurant - Mangiare - had lines around the corner every day for years.  Renee is the most eclectic in the kitchen.....I did mention the potato chips right?? She is a great cook as well however.  I have never proclaimed to be the best cook, but the dishes I do make are amazing.....and just like grandma, mom, dad, and Lana have taught me....and are still teaching me.....we want this book to teach everyone how to make real, authentic, home style Italian food.

Do each of you have a favorite recipe or type of food you prefer cooking?

Lana likes to cook everything.... and everything she makes is delicious.  My favorite type of dishes to cook are the seafood dishes - linguine and clam sauce, shrimp oregonata - but, as Chiara knows, I make some mean chicken cutlets.  Renee and I are in a battle over who makes them the best, but she also loves to make a Sunday Sauce and meatballs.

Who makes the best desserts?

Lana and I are really the only ones that like to bake, but I must say my niece Sonni is the absolute best.  So much so that we told her if and when we ever do a dessert book she must be included.

What's Cookin'?

What did you enjoy most about the making of this book?

It really brought us back together as sisters again.  Renee and I have been so busy with Mob Wives we hadn't spent much time with Lana.  The book gave us an opportunity to make up for lost time and laugh with one another.  Also, the making of the videos for the promotion of the book was fun.  They are really meant as funny vignettes and not literal cooking demonstrations.  Our favorite is the sausage and peppas with Renee's hilarious rendition of a guido!!

Mob Wives: Renee & Drita ABC Interview Season 4

Here is a thirteen minute, interesting video of Renee and Drita being interviewed about season four of Mob Wives and the New/Bad Blood. They talk about how the new wives are fitting in, how this is the first time Big Ang has really been annoyed, how the show has never been fun, how hard and mentally exhausting doing the show can be.

Drita discusses her girls and tells a few stories about Giselle that are very funny. All in all an enjoyable and interesting interview with Drita dropping a big HINT of things to come!

Mob Wives: Dave Seabrook's HOT 97 NY Interview

A rare and real interview with David Seabrook, Karen's ex, was recently done by Hot 97. Dave speaks about how he and Karen met and their relationship over the years. Dave is the father of Karen's daughter, Karina, and since being released from prison, he has been building a relationship with her. Dave wants to get out his side of the story and clear up some misrepresentations that he feels were made on the show. He talks about Karen's family and her father, Sammy the Bull, who accepted him as part of the family and welcomed him with open arms. Dave goes into the details of how he, Gerard and Sammy ended up in a prison when they were all out in Arizona. Dave says he spent 18 years of his life in prison, but now he feels he is doing very well in business. Dave is also pursuing other opportunities and says he will be a recurring cast member in season four o Mob Wives if it is picked up.

Mob Wives: Drita Talks About Life With Lee

Drita is interviewed by ABC about how things are going in her life. She talks about how well things are going with Lee. She explains how and why she has made an effort to change in season three. And, she says she is working on a book which will be full of surprises. What struck me most is how happy and relaxed Drita is these days. When she jokes about fighting, she is really joking. It's very refreshing to me to see her as this "new and improved" person and I am enjoying it. What do you think of the new Drita? Is this a permanent change? I tend to believe it is. In any case best of luck to Drita in her marriage, her new book and all her business ventures. Looks like she is going to keep her promise to her girls and build that empire for them.

Mob Wives: Drita D'avanzo Does Drag Queen

Ms. Serena ChaCha and Drita D'avanzo
VH1 thought it would be a great idea to have Drita D'avanzo of Mob Wives interview a drag queen.  It seems Drita was a bit confused as to who was interviewing who.  She reads the questions & then exclaims, "How am I suppose to know?"  We all get confused sometimes, some of us more than others.  Moving along, Ms Serena ChaCha from RuPaul's Drag Race is fierce with a capital F.  Apparently, she complimented Drita's lip gloss once upon a time.  The generous mob wife dug down into her purse to give the drag queen her very own Limelight lip gloss.  Serena ChaCha also gives Drita a drag name Esmerelda KnockOut.  I was thinking more along the lines of Annie Ambulance.  Hey what do I know?!  I'm not a drag queen.  I just look like a man. Watch Drita's attempt at an interview here:

What did you think?  Did Drita do a wonderful job?  Should Oprah clear her desk & make way for Mrs. D'avanzo?  *watching my nail polish dry*  I don't know about you but I can't wait until Sunday @ 10PM on VH1.  I want my Mob Wives!

Mob Wives: Love Majewski Brings It On!

"Not your run of the mill poisoner"

I've had the pleasure of meeting Love on a couple of occasions and speaking with her a few times since her episode, “Love Hurts,” of the Investigation Discovery's series I Married A Mobster. She has quite a personality that I can only describe as effervescent, like champagne. I know we all have questions about Love’s new role on Mob Wives. So I called her for a little chat. Love was gracious, as always, and was happy to answer my questions.

Hi Love, first of all I would like to congratulate you on joining the cast of Mob Wives. I’m thrilled for you. To be honest, it has been one of my wishes that you would be brought into the show. Maybe I can ask you a few questions to partly satisfy our readers, who are dying of curiosity?

Hi Chiara, thank you so much, I always enjoy talking to you. What is it you want to know?

We know the women in the cast of Mob Wives have a long history, yet Carla calls you, “...the newcomer into their little clique...” Just how well do you know each of the mob wives?

Ironically, it’s Carla who is the newcomer, since she only knows everyone since the show started. I’ve known Big Ang over 20 years, and I went to high school with Karen and Ramona, so I know them since I was about 14 which is well over 20 years.  I’ve known Drita through the other girls.

Did Jennifer Graziano approach you about being in the show?

Jennifer did approach me and we discussed my doing the show. The reason it came about was that different situations kept arising in the story line where my name was being brought up by the other wives and then edited out. It made more sense to bring me into the show and include me as part of the story line rather than exclude me, because I've had friendships & rapports with the Mob Wives. After doing I Married A Mobster and Deadly Sins this show seemed like a natural transition for me.

Who would you say you are closest to in the Mob Wives cast and why?

Oh this is a little tricky. When I was younger, as teenagers, I was best friends with Ramona. In this group I have gotten to know Renee.  You'll have to tune in to see whether we're friend, foe or frenemy.  I'll say I’m closest to Karen. Karen is the most fun to film with. When we have to shoot a scene, Karen takes over the room.  I think the director who I adore has an assistant when it comes to Karen. She is great to work with and has it all under control. Karen is very generous in ways people don’t see. Like, when we do the green room scenes and we have our hair and makeup done. We have to pick out outfits to wear and jewelry. Karen will tell me to wear some of her jewelry if it goes better with my outfit. I’ll tell her no because she needs it for next week and she answers don’t worry I’ll find something else. Karen is really a team player. The more time I get to spend with Drita, I can see why Karen and her were once good friends.   They share a similar sense of humor.  Both women are generous!

I know you can’t give away too many details, but how are you introduced into the storyline?

The show was already filming when I returned from spending time in Florida. I divide my time between Florida and New York.

From the pictures we have seen online of different events and your birthday, it seems you are on good terms with Karen, Ramona, Renee and even Drita. Does that mean you have issues with Carla in season three?

Let me put it this way, I don’t like anyone who talks behind my back. If you got the balls to say something behind my back, have the balls to say it to my face.   I need to stress that goes for each and every one of the Mob Wives and anyone I deal with.

The reason I ask is that a few weeks ago there was a little Twitter war between you, Handy Man and Carla, and rumor has it you once dated Handy Man. Can you tell us about that?

I did date him briefly, it was never anything serious or important to me. I typically date a certain caliber of men.  It was during a vulnerable time in my life.  Handy Man wasn't  boyfriend material for me.

(OUCH!)

In the super trailer for season three, you are saying that someone is going around calling you fat, ugly and is accusing you of stalking their boyfriend. I think I know who, but can you elaborate on that?

Without giving too much away I will say this, I have never stalked a man in my entire life. There is no shortage of men in my life. I never said I was skinny.  Sure I could lose a few pounds.  But then again I love me a good burrito bowl!  Some say only a dog wants a bone. A real man wants a woman.

You said a few things about yourself that got a tremendous reaction from fans and I’d like to give you an opportunity to clarify, in some detail, why you did what you said you did.

Who did you poison and why?

I poisoned one of my boyfriends with a  household product because he abused my dog. He always used to say you love that dog more than me. Then I noticed a change in my dog and one day a wife of a friend of his told me he was abusing my dog. He was driving with the dog in the car and the dog was looking out the window. He made a very sharp turn and the dog flew out. He picked up the dog and brought him into her house to clean him up before bringing him back home. I was so mad, I poisoned him, not enough to kill him just to give him violently ill with severe diarrhea. Then I took all the toilet paper and car keys and left him there.

Who did you shoot and why?

There is an article on that so you should research it. Okay, I will do that, Love.

AFTER MY INTERVIEW with Love I did some research online to find the story about her shooting. The incident took place about twenty years ago and was brought up on “I Married A Mobster’s Love Hurts,” episode. Love’s boyfriend at the time was Raymond Merolle, a well known criminal who had a car theft operation dubbed “The Untouchables” because they couldn’t be caught. Love came home from Florida to find out, from a neighbor, that another woman had been staying with Merolle while she was away. Love got into a fight with the other woman, breaking her nose and causing her to lose consciousness. When Love pepper sprayed Merolle, she told police that he began firing shots at her. That is when she took out her gun and fired at him.

Why did you stab your last boyfriend in front of his mother?.

I stabbed him because he lied to me. He said he was paying the bills while I was in Florida, but when I came back  I learned he didn’t pay anything. I owed 4 to 5 months of bills. He was getting ready to move out and he had his mother with him. I didn’t know that. I was so angry and I knew I had to get the jump on him when he walked through the door. He literally left me with $20, no car and all these bills. He had emptied out the bank account. I was so angry and so hurt I grabbed the letter opener a friend brought me from Africa, and stabbed him with it. It snapped in half. His mother started yelling and carrying on because she never wanted us to get back together.

Love is very close with her mom, Lorraine ♥

You know I love your mom, Lorraine, can you tell us if she will be in any scenes with you?

My mother has filmed with us on more than one occasion, but I don’t know if they will keep those scenes in the show. Ramona and Karen grew up in her house and she treats them just like she did back then.

Have you enjoyed being in season three so far? Was it what you expected?

I really enjoy it. Filming with Karen and Drita is a lot of fun. It’s different than the other shows I did where I was just telling a story. On Mob Wives I can show all sides of my personality. It’s a lot more work, but a lot more fun.

What, if anything, surprised you the most about filming?

I think what surprised me the most is how much of our lives the audience really gets to see. So much of the show is real and genuine. The show doesn’t hide much. Mob Wives is keeping the “real” in reality. They show so much of our trials and tribulations with the exception of one cast member who isn’t very forthcoming, the rest of us really let the public into our private lives, especially Renee and all she has been through.

One last question, it’s been bothering me forever. Do you know if Carla wears hair extensions? I know a few people who would like to pull them out.

Yes she does. All the time. Some of us will wear extensions occasionally, for the green screen scenes, but she wears them all the time.

I knew it! So much for that great hair…fake, just like the rest of her!

That’s all I have for now Love. This should keep our readers happy for awhile. Best of luck filming the rest of the season three episodes! I can’t wait to see you on the show and hope to talk to you again soon.

Okay Chiara, it was good talking to you.

And with that Love was off and running. She is really a pleasure to talk to and I am sure she is going to exceed all our expectations for season three. Love says, “We are either gonna love her or hate her.” I say, “We are gonna love her!” Kudos to Jennifer Graziano for another brilliant decision to add Love to the cast! JustJenn Productions Rocks!

Don’t miss the Mob Wives premiere on Sunday, January 6th at 8 PM on VH1 and set your DVR because you will need to see it again! Jenn just told me on a scale of 1 to 10, episode one is a 13!

P.S. If you haven't already heard, Love has her own Cosmetic Line, Veritas Cosmetics which we blogged about a year and a half ago. You may want to check out her website where she writes blogs giving beauty tips about hair and makeup! Follow her on Twitter @LoveMajewski so you don't miss a thing she has to say regarding the drama on the show!

Michael Bell Paints Scars of a Real Mob Wife

Celebrity Artist, Michael Bell

Toni Marie Ricci is writing a soon to be published book, Scars of a Real Mob Wife, in which she discusses her life and her marriage to Michael DiLeonardo aka “Mickey Scars.” Toni Marie has given viewers of “I Married A Mobster,” a brief glimpse into her marriage to the Gambino capo, who turned informant. I learned that she is collaborating with artist, Michael Bell, who is creating seven detailed paintings depicting her story which will not only be included in the book, but shown in a public exhibit at a yet to be named gallery. Two of the paintings have been completed and Mr. Bell has graciously agreed to be interviewed for our blog about this fascinating series of works, which will most definitely enrich an already very compelling story.

Hi Michael, it’s Chiara from mobwives.blogspot, and I want to thank you for agreeing to do this interview. How are you?

I'm well Chiara and it's my pleasure.

I'd like to begin with some background information about you. Can you tell me a little about yourself as an artist, and your career?

I won my first art show at the age of 5.  My Grandmother is the one who put the first paintbrush in my hand.  She’s a self-taught artist from Lyndhurst, NJ who taught herself how to paint with oils despite having no formal education.  That’s always amazed me to this day.  My parents were also extremely supportive of my art, entering me in shows ever since I can remember.  I think my mother’s also a “closet artist” because she can draw pretty well too.

As for my Art Career, I believe the most important job for an Artist is “to draw a line from your life to your art that is straight and clear.”  For me, painting early on became a positive way for me to give form and meaning to some very difficult life experiences…as a way to do something “constructive” as opposed to “destructive” with what life threw my way.

As a kid, I grew up on Mob Culture, with movies like the Godfather, the Pope of Greenwich Village, Goodfellas.  I also had an “Uncle” on my mother’s side, her first cousin I believe, that served 20 years in Trenton State Prison for a contract killing, only to be found shot to death in his apartment when he was paroled, so I’m also familiar with “the life.”  I would later do some portraits of the late John Gotti for his family, which brought attention to my work (some positive, some negative), but attention nevertheless…which led to more commissioned portraits for a lot of interesting people.  Here’s a few: Georgia Durante, who was once one of the most photographed models in the country turned wheel woman for the Mob back in the 70’s turned Hollywood Stuntwoman; Porn Stars (that’s a conversation for another day); then came “the Sopranos”, doing portraits for stars like Joseph R. Gannascoli (Vito) to John Fiore (Gigi), Joe Pantoliano (Ralphie), Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts), Sofia Milos (also of CSI:Miami), Clem Caserta of  “A Bronx Tale”, Dominic Capone (Al Capone’s Great Nephew) and now Toni Marie Ricci…my client list goes on and on much like that…

There are a lot of stories within stories within my career too since, as an artist, my process is very much like the “method acting” process made famous by actors such as Mickey Rourke and Robert DeNiro.  I get to know my subjects on a deep personal level, and more often than not we become friends.  We end up doing gigs together, get together on holidays, do things for charities...like one time, when I was in Chicago -- picture being taken out to dinner with a Judge, two Actors, the Chief of Police and three Mob guys…welcome to my world!  Then 9/11 hit.  It changed the art world forever, as nobody – especially not artists – were prepared to deal with such a tragedy and give it form or meaningful expression.  I remember being in Baltimore when it happened…driving to my Studio that morning and it was a ghost town.  Not a car on the road.  I knew something incomprehensible had to have happened, I just didn’t know the magnitude -- and then I got a call from Joey G (Joseph R. Gannscoli from the Sopranos).  We were scheduled to do an appearance at the 3rd Ave Festival in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn together at his restaurant “Soup as Art” that month and do autograph signings.  He was going to sign pictures and I was going to sign prints of my art that I created of him and our Sopranos pals.  He was devastated.  Told me he lost half his neighborhood.  Robert Cordice and the FDNY’s Squad 1 came up in the conversation, as did Father Mychal – 9/11’s first official casualty, which was coincidentally my wife’s childhood Priest.  Robert’s mother also worked with my wife’s best friend at Merrill Lynch down in the Financial District.  I ended up pulling an all-nighter and painted Robert’s portrait and sent it up to Joe along with some other Sopranos prints I did for their fundraiser in Staten Island for Squad 1, and a second one at Rascal’s Comedy Club in West Orange, NJ where Kevin James from “King of Queens” and Sopranos Steve Schirripa auctioned off a pastel piece I did of him and Joe to help raise thousands for some of the families of fallen heroes.

I guess, because of who my clientele are, people then started referring to me as “Celebrity Artist Michael Bell”, Mob Artist Michael Bell even…an on and on that went, but it also helped me develop a niche in an Art Market so saturated with sameness.  You could say that both my work and who I’ve painted for has helped separate me from the pack of other artists of my generation.

How long have you known Toni Marie?

For only about 4 or 5 months.  I Re-Tweeted a link to a great interview Mickey Rourke did on James Lipton’s “Inside the Actor’s Studio” that a friend sent me and I tagged Mickey in the tweet.  Toni Marie happened to see my Re-Tweet, knew Mickey personally and reached out to me, asking how I knew him.  So, I shared an old charcoal piece I did for Mickey years ago with her: "Black and White Gallery"along with a link to a new thematic series I’m working on called “Carnevale Italiano” http://mbellart.com/prequel.htm which is a prequel painting series to my “Ticket to Ride” painting series that I ended up writing a screenplay about.  I told her how I’ve been actively seeking Producers for the project.  This brought up the conversation surrounding her book and life story.  Long story short, we hit it off, found we had a lot of synchronistic coincidences surrounding both our lives and she connected to my style of work.  Before we knew it, we also realized we had A LOT of friends in common!

I told her I thought there was incredible depth to her story and how courageous she was to go against her ex-husband and testify along with her son FOR John Gotti Jr. at his last trial.  She’s a standup gal and went against the grain.  I like that.  My whole career has been like that.  Most artists go the traditional gallery route, schlocking their wares from small gallery to small gallery in hopes that a “biggie” will take notice and sign them on to their stable of artists and give them a show.  All this in hopes of getting their name out there so they can start generating more sales and commission work through the gallery’s contact lists.  As for me, I took a more “build it and they’ll come” approach, so to speak.  I’ve been very lucky, and the harder I’ve worked the luckier I’ve become.  It’s catapulted my career to a Celebrity status and like Frankie said, I did it MY WAY, not resigning my fate to some gallery owner that may or may not have my best interests at heart when promoting my name and my work.

Michael in his studio

How did the idea for this collaboration of art and book come about?

It was a very interesting concept from the start, and I’m not sure if it has ever been done before but it’s definitely original from our vantage point.  Initially, my thoughts were for the paintings to say what words fail to accurately describe about her life story.  Pictures, for me, have a magical power and can tap into emotions that sometimes words are unable to.  I call it putting “layers of meaning” into my work through the accumulation of experiences, both behind the easel and behind the scenes as I get to know my subjects on a deeply personal level.  It’s like, have you ever met someone for the first time and their face changes as you get to know them?  It’s their true personality coming to the surface.  And while I spend a lot of time on the surface of each painting, it’s the “inside” of my subjects that I’m really after.  That’s why photographs wouldn’t do her story justice.  Her story is so complex and has so many layers to it, which is exactly why painting them out makes more sense.  It does her story more justice.  A painting is also a beautiful way to acknowledge and immortalize someone that deserves to be remembered.   I told her I thought these paintings could serve as a way of “healing” her wounds/scars if you will, that run so deep.

I’ve also collaborated on projects with numerous other artists, so I’m comfortable with collaborations. I’ve actually done some pure collaboration art shows for years with a well-known Washington D.C. based artist, Michael Sprouse and in 2012 I began I’ve collaborating with artist friend Eric Fischl to create meaningful projects for Eric’s AMERICA: NOW AND HERE nationwide movement for artists, playwrights and musicians.  This past month I also created a huge collaboration painting of Amanda Todd, the Vancouver teen who sadly committed suicide last month after years of bullying.  I created this work of art with kids in a high school from a National Art Honor Society that I sponsor as a gift for Todd’s mother Carol.  We also documented it as a youtube video at http://youtube.com/mbellart

I guess this, and Toni Marie’s project are all about the activist in me.

How did you arrive at the number of paintings that would be done? Is it based on the chapters of her book, are the paintings chronological, or based on your artistic interpretation of her story?

It is an interesting collision of art, literature, pop culture and the Mob.  It’s not based on Chapters in her book, but actually from a conversation I had with Toni Marie about her ex-husband’s obsession with “A Clockwork Orange.”  A Clockwork Orange (the book) is broken down into Three Acts: Part I (Chapters 1 – 7, On the Streets), Part II (Chapters 1 – 7, In Prison & Under Experimental Testing) and Part III (1 – 7, Back out in Society)…very symbolic of Christ’s 1) dying; 2) is buried; and 3) on the 3rd day is resurrected where the main character 1) falls from grace; 2) is imprisoned and 3) re-emerges and returns to society as a reformed version of his former self leading a new life – which strangely enough seems A LOT like life imitating art.  Their relationship died, was buried, was dug back up again in court after he entered the witness protection program and he re-emerges as “someone else” - someplace else.  So, this is how I came up with the idea of their being 7 works.  I also felt it important to do these works on paper, even though most of my series work in the past has been done on canvas, only because a lot of her life was delved through in court transcripts, read about in the newspapers, and now taking form in a book.  So, I felt paper was the appropriate vehicle for the paintings to take shape on.  There’s also that “7 Deadly Sins” connotation that could be inferred behind each work as well -- if you examine each work really closely and dive even deeper.

Have you actually read her book or are the paintings based on your conversations with her about her life?

No, just read a glimpse, a synopsis if you will, and she allowed me into her private world by sharing diary entries from that time period.  The paintings are really more about my own creative interpretations of our private conversations and time we’ve spent together discussing the project.

The process for me started with my imagining some “visuals” for 7 paintings that would all tie together like a loose narrative about her life, not about her ex, and not about glorifying the Mob at all, which is a common misconception with my work, but more or less a glimpse for the public behind the curtains of what she’s been through ‘physically and emotionally’… seen through the eyes of someone “walking a mile, painting by painting, in her shoes” so to speak…like a method actor, as I mentioned earlier.  For me the process is just as important as the final product.  It’s what I get to learn about my subjects as I get to know them and uncover new ways to reveal their secrets visually in appealing ways that will engage the viewer.

There seems to be so much detail in each of the two paintings we have seen so far and the more I study them the more I discover. Will the book include any of your personal thoughts and ideas that went into creating each painting?

Each painting is meant to deliver a powerful message on its own, but when placed in a particular viewing order within the entire collection, the series tells a much larger tale – one of triumph and overcoming life’s hand that’s been dealt.  They also take things to the Nth degree – each work amped up with car bomb explosions, dead bodies and haunting ghost-like images hidden in smoke and shadows, underhanded deals being made in every dark corner, trials peppered with media frenzies, and authentic immortalizations of the repercussions of our actions against the backdrop of New York City.

I’m not sure whether her book will include any of my personal thoughts or not.  We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but if it’s appropriate for the book and if it fits with the overall message she’s looking to share with the world through the book, then I’m game.

We’ve also been discussing the possibility of doing a Coffee Table Art Book featuring each painting, a detail view, and a reveal of the “behind the scenes” thoughts and process behind each painting, what everything means in each of the works, and pages from my sketchbook visual journal and from Toni Marie’s diary to place the viewer in our shoes…take them along for the ride so to speak, painting by painting as the works evolve and eventually the series is completed.

Really? I think that's a great idea. I would be very interested in a book that delves into all of that. I am very curious about all the details in the two paintings I've seen and what inspired them. Every time I look at one of them I see something I missed before.

Painting #1

Can you tell us something about what you tried to capture in the first and second paintings?

The first painting I think of as “the book cover” so to speak…it’s “the movie poster”…the image that poses all questions to the viewer that each of the following six works will have to try and break down to answer.  In Painting 1 Toni Marie is at her second wedding, getting married to her current husband.  The only resources I had for this work was her wedding photo and newspapers chronicling events leading to her ex-husband’s decision to flip.  So, I added in the newspaper clippings and placed them in frames behind her, with a flock of blackbirds flying out from her former residence, symbolic of reincarnation.  Her husband is looking down the road ahead while she’s actually looking back on everything that led up to this very moment.  There’s also lots of subtle details you have to look closely for that put the pieces together.  It’s a very complex first work, because the details surrounding her life to that point were equally as complex, like the rosary and crucifix in her hand, a dead body laying near the gutter of an old-time Brooklyn, the Verrazano Bridge racing through the background, through their lives that also connects Brooklyn to Staten Island – her past life to her current…there’s lots built into work 1, let’s just leave it at that.  I could go on and on.

Painting #2

In Painting 2 I wanted to take the viewer back to her childhood.  When life was pure, there she is at her Communion, and then just above her, symbolic of Venus rising from the ashes is her getting married to her first husband, while dancing a Father and Daughter dance at her first wedding.  All this juxtaposed against a car bomb exploding, which was actually the car bomb that killed her Uncle, Frank DeCicco back in 1986 – a bomb meant for John Gotti, Sr.  All this religion against all this destruction, the car bomb I thought was also symbolic of her relationship with her first husband, based on her accounts of it to me.  Explosive, destructive, damaging to everyone in it’s path.  I initially painted her son riding a bike in the work, but painted it out later and instead put a pool of blood leaking from the streets down below to make the young version of Toni Marie in her communion dress standing in it as an added symbolic gesture.  I also hid screaming faces and demons in the smoke, because…well, why not?

Toni Marie with Michael Bell

Has Toni Marie had any input at all into what subjects will or won’t be included in the paintings? For example, I noticed, maybe incorrectly, that while there are references to Michael DiLeonardo, his likeness doesn’t seem to appear in either painting.

Toni Marie’s a one of a kind!  She’s a remarkable woman, extremely open to my own interpretations and ideas and doesn’t sideline me or my talent by telling me what should or shouldn’t be in the works.  From one professional to another I LOVE THAT!  She’s trusting me to do my job, get to know her well enough to know what to put and what not to put before it’s ever even an issue but I do greatly value her feedback from painting to painting.  I’ll send her a pic in progress so she can see if our thoughts are on the same page, and thus far I’m on the money and will continue to be.

And no, you’re correct, there are references to her ex, but no likenesses will ever show up.  He’s not in her life anymore.  She’ll never see him again - literally, so why put him in the paintings and reveal anything different than what her reality is.  Plus I don’t know him, never knew him, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable painting him.

How long has it taken to complete one painting and how many of the paintings have you completed so far?

About two weeks per work total hours-wise.  I’m projecting it will take about 4 months overall to complete the entire series.  But who knows, I tend to spend a lot of hours on something once I start it, so it could be sooner.  I’ve completed two thus far and am working on Painting 3 in studio now, which I hope to have finished before Christmas.

Michael with Mob Wives

Has it been decided if the art exhibit will take place before or after the book is released or in conjunction with that event?

All this is still to be determined.  We are actively seeking the right Solo Exhibition for the entire series, which could run in conjunction with her book release, or with the coffee table art book we talked about, but all this depends on finding the right gallery, the right publisher, and so forth.

Right now I’m just focusing on the work.  Like I said earlier, I usually just build it and they come, so I’m not worried about that.  The works will make any gallery A LOT of money, and get that gallery tons of exposure, so who wouldn’t want to exhibit them.  After all, I just finished the first Painting Unveiling on camera for Season 3 of MobWives.  The press is gonna be all over that once it airs.  I will say this, I’ll probably book a Solo Exhibition with a gallery or contemporary art museum that reaches out to me from an authentic standpoint of truly believing in “the work” BEFORE it’s aired on television across the country.  This way I’ll know they’re for real too, and not just jumping on the bandwagon because my work is on TV.

What do you plan to do with all the paintings after the exhibit?

Not a thing, because they’ll all be sold – unless it’s acquired by a museum or a private collector and becomes a traveling show.  I do plan on doing a number of appearances with Toni Marie and I’m sure we’ll be doing some print signings and book signings together.  Then, I’ll be on to my next exciting series…

That's all I have for today Michael. I appreciate your taking the time to talk to me. Hope to talk to you again one day.

Good bye Chiara, it was a pleasure talking with you.

I have to say this was a very interesting and enjoyable interview. I am glad Michael provided some explanation as to the details in the two paintings because every time I look at them I seem to see more, but I also feel like I am missing a lot. I hope you will take the time to visit Michael's website and look at his other paintings. As for me, I am dying to see what he is going to do with the other five paintings for Toni Marie's book and the painting he will unveil for season three of Mob Wives!
