Mob Wives: Karen's View on Gravano/Gotti History

In this clip Karen discusses her feelings concerning the history between the Gravanos and the Gottis and how she now looks at the situation that currently exists between their families. Karen feels she and Victoria Gotti were born into the lifestyle, it wasn't something they chose and they have both been affected by their father's choices in life. Karen sounds very sincere and i would love it if there could be a real sit down between these two women where they can find some closure and peace about the past.

Mob Wives: What is "The Sammy Deal?"

On episode 4 of Mob Wives there was a lot of talk about "rats," mainly Gnatalie and Junior. In one scene, at the end, Victoria Gotti meets with Big Ang to discuss the consequences of Junior's testimony. The long and short of it is this: there was a robbery that Junior participated in with Ang's cousin and another man. An innocent man was killed and Junior was the one  responsible for his death. Junior took a plea deal, wore a wire and testified in court. For his cooperation Junior got 11 years. The other two men, one being Ang's cousin, got 30 years. Ang needs Victoria's advice about how to approach Renee about this situation. What Renee has to do with this I don't know, ask Ang.

Now, during this discussion between the two women, the subject of "rats" comes up. And, because Junior took a plea deal and cooperated, he qualifies as a "rat." It must have hit a nerve with Victoria Gotti. Victoria made a comment that I took to be a cheap shot at Karen. She said Junior got, what "they" call, "The Sammy Deal." A sweet deal. Now I have done a lot of reading and watched plenty of videos and I have never heard of "The Sammy Deal" before. But I don't know everything, so I took to the internet and researched the term in case I missed something somewhere. Nope. Nowhere on the internet is the term, "The Sammy Deal," used except for the blogs written after Mob Wives episode 4 aired. I suppose it might be used among those in the lifestyle OR it might be something Victoria totally made up out of thin air to stick it to Karen. Not nice.

It's a very long story, but Sammy Gravano did not just wake up one day and decide to cooperate with authorities. It went against everything he believed. A lot of things happened to help him decide that was what he needed to do. The Feds had an overwhelming amount of information against John Gotti without Sammy's cooperation; and all their evidence was provided by John Gotti via wiretaps. The Feds played six hours of FBI recorded tapes for the jury. Tapes that were full of family secrets. It was Gotti's own arrogant and reckless attitude that was responsible for getting himself, Locascio and Sammy arrested. But, it was what happened during the year after their arrest, while they were in the Manhattan Correctional Center awaiting trial, that finally persuaded Sammy to cooperate. The Feds played tapes for Sammy where Gotti was saying things to throw Sammy under the bus. Gotti also picked the lawyers for both himself and Sammy and told Sammy he could not meet with his attorney unless Gotti was present. Gotti would not allow their cases to be tried separately. Sammy started to get a very bad feeling. These are Sammy's own words:

"All John had to do was come to me once during that eleven months we were together and say, 'Sammy, I'm sorry. My big f***ing mouth got you indicted, number one. Number two, let's try to get a severance for you, so you could fight your case. F*** the public. Let's try to fight this so that one of us, all of us, a couple of us, get out of this f***ing mess.'

"If he done that, I would have never cooperated with the government, not in a million years would I have cooperated."

"In addition to the fact that Gotti never apologized for mouthing off to the extent that he had dug a deep hole for Gravano, Sammy felt that the defense team, hand picked by John, was going to set him up for the fall."

This is really is a very long and compelling story. Gotti and Gravano worked hand in hand for years. Gotti was not the "innocent" lamb and Sammy "the rat." After they were arrested Gotti told the FBI things like people would meet with Sammy and then disappear. He tried to make it seem as though Sammy acted on his own and not on Gotti's orders. His plan was to shift the blame on to Sammy. It was only then, and after agonizing deliberation, that Sammy agreed to a plea deal. I have read about crimes, arrests, plea deals, you name it. But, to my knowledge, I have never come across the phrase, "The Sammy Deal," anywhere.

And, I have to add, I was excited to see Victoria Gotti on the show, even though she made some critical remarks about it over the years. She is, after all, the daughter of a mob boss, and I thought she fit in very well with the show. However, that little "zinger" she threw in didn't sit well with me. I felt bad for Karen.When Karen addressed Renee's meeting with Victoria, I thought she handled it with class. She took the high road . She could have thrown in a jab herself on camera, but she didn't. It would be very interesting if Karen and Victoria had their own sitdown and the truth about what went down between their fathers all came out.

I'm sure Karen is still sitting alone in the "truth room" waiting for someone to step in for some real talk. Alicia? Victoria? Gnat? Unfortunately, no one wants to hear the truth.

Mob Wives: Recap “Storm-A-Brewin,” Ep 503

Let the drama begin!

Hello! Season 5 is off the chain! I have to watch each episode twice just to catch half of what happens. We start off where we ended last week, outside the Drunken Monkey, with Gnat getting in Karen’s face.

Police car sirens seem to be speeding to the Drunken Monkey. Karen and Gnat are still at it and security is all over the place. I have no doubt the security was requested by GNATalie because Karen doesn‘t need any protection. Gnat says she will call the cops. What else is new? Gnat repeatedly calls Karen an informant to provoke a fight. Why? Maybe she is trying to get Karen arrested and then she can brag about it on Twitter! Drita says no family talk to get Gnat to stop, but Gnat won‘t put a cork in it. Karen is totally fed up, saying this “lowlife Gnat talks about her family? Now she made this into a thing she don’t want” and Karen is going to take care of her. The fight is broken up and Gnat makes a fast retreat with London. Ang is disgusted she can’t have a party at her bar without the girls acting crazy. Drita aka flip-flopper, hates to hear anyone talking about anyone’s family, or so she says. "I can't listen to anyone talking about anyone's family. It's finished. It's done!" Ang and Karen both already told Drita that Gnat was calling Karen and her father a rat and yet Drita is STILL hanging with her at the party where she heard Gnat continue to talk about Karen‘s family. Drita your true colors are showing! Karen says the fight is over for now. Karen says Gnat is lucky she got away for now, but it’s just for now. She will be coming for her!

Drita is on phone with Lee. She is stressed out over the party and her stores. Lee is helping her with the kids. Drita feels he is making up for all the time he was away. Drita says it’s harder on the outside than the inside with work and bills. Drita seems very happy, but she says work keeps getting in the way of their time together. This is the first decent conversation I have heard between Drita and Lee where there is no cursing and he isn‘t being verbally abusive.

Gnat is on the phone with London. She went home to Philly after the party. She is concerned about their relationship. London goes to see her. She steps out to talk to him. Gnat still feels London was siding with Karen and Storm. London says she has a problem with other people. Gnat doesn’t like the way he handled the situation after Storm “jerked her off” in front of everyone, and she doesn’t want him being the peacemaker. He says she takes everything so personally. They don’t seem to be making any progress. She wants to be treated like his woman. She says her issue is with him, not them. She wants him to have her back and he can’t give her that. He says he is trying and came there to fix it. Poor London.

Karen tells Renee about the party and GNAT!

Renee and Karen talk about the Drunken Monkey party. Renee says all she is thinking is “I hope you put this b*tch in a bag and sent her to the sanitation department.”  Karen says the cops were called. Karen tells her she walked outside, everyone was there, and Gnat comes up to her and says let me ask you something: “Why is your man jerking me off?” Karen says London came over and was telling them he didn’t agree with how Gnat handle things. Karen says it confirmed to her that Gnat” is a cop caller. Karen says Gnat was provoking her when she went outside she so could call the cops. Renee says Drita and Ang make a huge mistake letting Gnat into their circle.

"[Gnat's] a no good filthy blow job"

Renee plans to call Ang because they know each other too long to let an outsider, a no good filthy blow job,” come between them. Renee says if Ang brings up Gnat’s name in the future their friendship will be completely over. If everyone can see what the hell Gnat is all about, why can’t Ang and Drita? Does a house have to fall on them? Is this nobody from Philly worth it? I can’t wait to hear what the new Natalie D has to say about her!

"Diffuse it."

Ang is going to the house of the “boss of bosses” for advice about all the girl drama, which is out of control. Victoria Gotti makes a grand entrance. She sure knows how to walk into a room! They sit down to chat. They reminisce about John Gotti and the past. The Gotti family is legendary in the lifestyle, says Ang. Victoria says there are no ethics or morals any more, those gentlemen are long gone. I am guessing she is referring to mob lifestyle ethics? Ang explains all the drama in her circle of girls and the backstabbing that is driving her crazy. Victoria says there is always one personality that stirs things up. Ang immediately blurts out GNATalie. Victoria advises her to diffuse the situation. Ang adds her long time friend, Renee, has been talking about her family. Victoria says family is off limits. When someone gets to that level they need to be reined in. Woman should build each other up. Victoria says in her circle, people act the way she allows them to act. She says set boundaries. She makes it clear, this is the line we’re not crossing. She says call out the person and tell them when they crossed the line. Keep the families out of the drama. Sometimes that is all it takes to set someone straight. Let them know if they can’t do that they better watch their backs. I have to say I enjoyed the scene with Victoria Gotti, it’s like she fits right in and makes sense.

Just taking in all Gnat's stupidity.

Oh no, not Gnat again. This time she is meeting Drita and Ang. Ang wants to talk to Gnat and set her straight because all the sh*t she is pulling is not ok. First, Gnat complains about London and they stick up for him. He is a good guy, he doesn‘t want to fight. Gnat is still not satisfied. What the hell is really wrong with this cosmetician? Did all those funeral embalming fumes really go to her head? She just doesn’t get a damn thing! Then Ang wants to talk to her about what she said to Karen at the Drunken Monkey. Both Ang and Drita tell her she said the wrong thing to Karen and it was below the belt. Drita says Gnat throws verbal grenades. Ang says Gnat said vicious things and it will get her in trouble one day. And what does Gnat get out of all that? Gnat says no one is going to change who she is or what she says. Perfect. I am convinced her brain is fried.

Big Ang gives up trying to talk sense to the Gnat.

Renee goes to visit Karen in her new home. Karen says she has her daughter here in New York now, no more back and forth from Arizona. Karen says she is very stressed with everything that is going on and she doesn’t even have furniture. She tells Renee she is upset. She went to Storm’s house to stay because she had an early appointment and then overslept. He came home at 7 am and she jumps up out of her sleep realizing her alarm never went off.  She gets a weird vibe from Storm so she gets up and finds a b*tch in her living room. He claims she wasn’t with him she was with his friend and she just wanted to use the bathroom. Karen says the b*tch starts running away and Karen hits Storm. She moved her daughter here and thought she was in a solid relationship and now this happens.

Best  Friends 

Karen starts crying. Renee comforts her. Now Karen doesn’t know what was going on while she was in Arizona. She says she thought their relationship was built on trust. They have to talk once she calms down and thinks about it. She feels violated. I have lived a long time and know a lot of women and no one has ever told me about their man bringing a woman into their home, any time of the day of night, to use the bathroom. I suppose it could be true, but I do not blame Karen for having some very serious doubts.

Ang says her son, AJ wasn’t there for the birth of his baby, Angelina. He violated his parole and was sent to Rikers Island. Ang drops in on Drita. Drita asks about AJ. Ang tells her he is in Rikers, it’s disgusting. The lawyer is trying to get him in a rehab program. He wasn’t clean when he was tested and they cuffed him and took him away. Drita thinks maybe this is a wake up call for him. Maybe it’s what he needed and maybe it even saved him from something worse. Drita says Lee is such a different person now that he served his time. Then Ang tells her that Renee called out of the blue and wants to meet up. Ang says she is the bigger person and will meet with her even though she doesn‘t know if the friendship is worth saving. Drita says why meet her, you do nothing but help her out. Why isn’t Drita encouraging two old friends to make up? Drita is no friend of Renee’s and never was.

Renee, AJ and his girlfriend, Andrea go out to eat dinner. They have been dating over a year and she is a positive influence on him. AJ is living with his grandfather. Renee asks if they are moving in together or getting engaged. AJ doesn’t like her in his business. He says he wants to be like 25 or 26 before he takes that step. Renee says she would like to get married one day and move away from New York.

Ang gets a call from AJ in prison. She hates the thought of him being at Rikers. She can’t wait for him to come home and see his daughter and her nursery. AJ has two strikes against him, one more and he will go away for a long time. Ang says when he gets out he needs a good job with benefits to take care of his family.

Karen and Storm talk but don't get very far.

Karen is overwhelmed with everything going on in her life. Storm comes over to Karen’s unannounced. Karen hasn’t spoken to him since she found that sorry ass ho in his living room. They go outside to talk. She says she needs a good explanation and apology. He says the ho came up to use the bathroom. He can’t help it if he gets home at 7 am. Karen tells him, b*tches shouldn’t be in her house without an explanation. Karen says there is a level of respect and communication when you are a couple and they don’t have it. He says she ran out because Karen flipped out in her face. He tells Karen if she would have stayed calm she would have gotten an explanation. Karen feels he isn’t sorry and is he is trying to turn the situation around to put the blame on her. He put her in this position. Karen is hurt and angry. Karen says she is disgusted that he can’t understand what she is trying to say. He doesn’t apologized or take responsibility. She goes inside. He goes inside. What kind of man brings a girl home and then flips the script and blames it on his girl. Karen thinks sometimes maybe she picks the wrong guy. She isn’t happy with the situation. He says she loves drama. She screams she doesn’t love drama. This is her home, a sanctuary for her daughter. Karen says she needs space. They are done! She didn’t move 2500 miles to be disrespected. Karen tells him to leave. Storm wont leave, so she takes off. Karen drives off. He stays on the couch. She tells him he better be gone when she gets back. Storm really screwed up.

Renee is meeting Ang to set the record straight. It was a big deal for Ang to show up. Ang wants to let Renee know how badly she hurt her. Ang says she is very uncomfortable, she isn’t used to sitdowns. Ang says something went wrong somewhere. Ang wants to straighten it out because she doesn’t like it, it‘s uncomfortable since they always say they are like family. Ang want’s to know why Renee is bad mouthing her family? Before Renee can tell Ang what she thinks went wrong, a woman walks into the restaurant wearing a black suit . . . is it Victoria Gotti? I’m pretty sure I saw Victoria in the white car . . . blonde hair and glasses! Take a look people . . .

More advice? Well we will have to wait for it until January 7th! And it looks like everyone wants a piece of Gnat come January 7th too.

Mob Wives: Sneak Peek Ep 3 - Big Ang Meets Victoria Gotti

"You're smart, diffuse it."

Big Ang is sick of all the drama. She isn't talking to Renee. Karen and GNATalie are ready to kill each other. She's had enough of all of them. She needs some outside advice because these girls are killing her. So what does she do? She's arranged to see the boss of bosses, Victoria Gotti, at her home! Victoria shows up and they chat a little bit about John Gotti. Then Victoria asks what's going on?  Ang fills her in on all the drama that is going on and she wants some advice. The girls are always fighting and backstabbing. Ang says GNATalie stirs it up and is being very reckless. Ang isn't happy about the scene she created at her anniversary party. Victoria says she has a strong personality. Then she tells Ang, "you're smart, diffuse it."

Mob Wives: Victoria Gotti Calls Mob Wives “A Train Wreck”

Does a "fired" Victoria Gotti have room to disrespect others?

Victoria Gotti was interviewed by Frank Moreno on AM 970 The Apple. Apparently Frank is not a fan of Mob Wives and found himself someone else, who feels the same way, to interview. 

Victoria had plenty to say when Frank wanted to compare her to Karen Gravano. Both Victoria and Karen have written books about mafia life, but Victoria says she wrote hers to help her brother, who was facing criminal charges. She says she was offered a book deal years before that, but refused until she thought a book might help save her brother’s life. She was clearly implying that Karen wrote her book for purely personal gain. Speaking of Karen she says, “I've never met this girl. I don't know her. I don't like what I see, per se, and hear, but at the same time, I think the whole 'Mob Wives' thing is a complete joke.”

Victoria also commented that Mob Wives was “a train wreck” and “it wasn’t real.” But she adds, "God bless them, is what I say.  If you ask me, do I see any major talent there in each of them, or any of them? No."

When Frank is asked why he is critical of Karen, but praises Victoria Gotti his answer is, “I guess to me the major difference is Karen is herself a convicted criminal, and she really doesn't have any major talents."

MY TWO CENTS: Out of Respect & Loyalty

Is this is supposed to be an objective opinion? Could it be any more biased?  Seriously now, Victoria’s father, John Gotti, was arrested and convicted based on the testimony of Sammy Gravano. Could there be any more love lost or any more animosity between their two daughters?  The way it came down was that the FBI played tapes of John Gotti throwing Sammy under the bus, and they wanted his cooperation. Even with the evidence that Gotti was setting him up to take the fall, Sammy Gravano thought long and hard before making a deal with the Feds and breaking the code of silence. The truth of the matter is, it was either going to be John Gotti or Sammy Gravano going away for life. Sammy decided to take the deal. I’m sure Victoria and her family don’t see it that way. Nevertheless, to expect her to have any kind words for Karen is ridiculous. She is probably the last person I would ask about Karen!

I also noticed that both Frank Moreno and Victoria Gotti say that Karen and the other Mob Wives have no “major talent.” That’s their opinion. It’s nice that they share the same opinion, but there are many that would disagree, me included. The Mob Wives are just getting started. They only hit the airways less than a year ago. And besides that, I hated her show, “Growing Up Gotti” with her three spoiled brat sons. Give me AJ, Karina, Aleeya, Giselle, Carmen or Joseph any day of the week! Sorry, I haven’t met Ramona’s children, but from what I saw of them I would take them too!

Just another point about "major talent" because I am irked right now. Does Victoria have any major talent? Because, if she does I surely missed it.  I watched the first three episodes of Celebrity Apprentice and Victoria almost got fired the first week for not bringing in money, for taking personal phones calls, and for showing up late etc. Then she DID get fired in week two for whining, not taking on her assigned role, making mistakes etc. I expected her, as a mob daughter and business woman, to kick ass! But instead she was a total disappointment and her team lost both weeks. As soon as she left the women's team had a very united feel and they actually won their task. Maybe when it comes to talent, she should try emulating our VH1 Mob Wives instead of disparaging them? They have a hit series and are adding Chicago and who knows what else. They are in big demand. The public has voted and they are the BOMB!

PS Get Karen's book, Mob Daughter and read it, maybe if Victoria had she would know who Karen is!

Celebrity Apprentice: Victoria and Teresa Round 2

The very beginning of the show starts with the end of last week’s show, with Victoria coming out of the board room narrowly escaping being fired. Lisa is scared that Victoria will kill her in her sleep for mentioning the fact that she made personal phone calls while she was supposed to be working. She apologizes. Victoria replies it’s going to be tough to work together if they are going to turn on each other, but she is ready---bring it on!

Now let the games begin. Literally! This week’s task is for each group to create a 15 minute show for Medieval Times and it will be judged by the audience on creativity and entertainment value. I have been to Medieval Times and it can be quite an experience. The outside looks like a castle. Inside, they serve dinner while they have knights jousting on horses, horse tricks and various other types of medieval entertainment. The teams need to pick their project managers and get started. The men’s team, Unanimous,  picks Penn Jillette. The women’s team, Forte, picks Lisa Lampanelli. The project manager of the winning team will walk away with $40,000 for their charity.

Keep in mind I am only concentrating on Victoria and Teresa, if you want a complete recap of the show this is not it, but there are plenty online.

Lisa comes up with the idea of doing something current in a medieval setting. She decides, since they are performing in New Jersey, to do a parody or spoof of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. The idea translates into The Unreal Housewives of Camelot fighting for the love and affection of Sir Donald of Trump, king or knight of Camelot, played by Lisa Lampanelli herself.

Dayana asks if there will be a lot of children the audience because she isn’t sure this idea will appeal to them. Lisa basically tells her to shut up and wear her nude leotard, ride in on a horse and look pretty…like Lady Godiva. That’s all she is good for. Neither Teresa nor Victoria have anything to say. To be honest, Lisa doesn’t want to hear from anyone but Aubrey, who becomes her second in command.

Lisa is excited about doing a clean and funny show. She assigns the roles to the women. She wants to use each individual’s specific talents appropriately. She decides to give Victoria the hardest job of creative director working with the lights and sounds. Victoria isn’t happy and says, “Why don’t you just put me in the closet?” She feels left out and that everyone has a role except her.

Victoria proves to be a whiner not a winner!

It’s time to pick out the costumes for the various roles. Everyone is excited and it gets a little noisy, Lisa loses her patience because people are interrupting her. She acts like a tyrant. Teresa’s role is the table flipping housewife (apparently there was a famous scene in RHONJ where she flipped a table). They (Lisa and Aubrey) feel this is a great idea because they are playing to the NJ crowd with a popular show they can relate to. Teresa has to work hard to learn her lines, she is used to reality television where you say whatever comes to mind. One of her lines is “Bring it on wench!” 

Lisa is writing the script and Don Jr. shows up. She asks if his father will mind if she plays him with a wig. He thinks it will be funny and she can’t get fired for that, the audience picks the winner. Don Jr. also likes their concept. Lisa mentions the tension with Victoria and tells him she doesn’t think being stage director is important. She sent her shopping to get her out of the way. 

All the women are practicing their sword fighting. They look to Victoria for instruction on how they should “act.” Victoria backs away from being stage director, she isn’t comfortable with the role. So, they tell her to take a sword and fight. Victoria is swinging her sword all the while she is wearing her Louis Vuitton bag! No one is happy about that. So then they move Victoria into doing some research with Lisa. They need to look up medieval words to use in the script. Lisa almost has a stroke! Instead of googling “medieval” which is right on the stationery in front of her, Victoria is typing in mid-evil into the search bar. Lisa is pissed because Victoria can’t even look at the paper in front of her. 

Victoria whines that she isn’t happy, she feels left out of the task, unacknowledged and invisible. Lisa tells her she has the most important role. Victoria seems to come around.

Dress Rehearsal! Victoria seems to take control in the sound room. Lisa starts to feel a little confident. However, Victoria doesn’t have the updated script so the lights and sounds are not happening when they are supposed to! Lisa is pissed again.

Show Time! The men perform first, under the leadership of Penn Jillette, and seem to do well. The next performance is by the women. Problems from the get go!

Teresa proves to be a winner!

Victoria is in charge of lighting and sound, however, when King Lisa/Donald comes out on stage there is supposed to be a trumpet flourishing his entrance…there was none, so Lisa had to use her voice to create the trumpet sound! The fighting begins for Sir Donald’s love. Teresa and another wench sword fight and Teresa wins the battle. She asks if she has done enough to win his heart. The Donald says, “You’re fired!” Teresa gets angry and flips over a table. When both shows are over the crowd votes for their favorite team.

Back at the boardroom, Donald begins his interrogation. He asks Victoria about Lisa. She says Lisa was a strict project manager, a good leader, but Donald senses some hesitation. Lisa explains that there was some tension between them from the start when she assigned the roles and Victoria felt that stage director was not important and that she was pushed aside. Teresa played a housewife and says she was challenged because it was so different from reality tv, but she was able to use her emotions from RHONJ to “act” in the show.

Donald wants to know from Lisa, who she would bring back to the board room. She chooses Victoria and Dayana. Victoria because she threatened to quit the team and go to the men’s team, she didn’t want her assigned role to be stage director and Lisa said she felt she was emotionally left out and she didn’t have time to “mother” her.

Lisa says she picked Dayana because she didn’t contribute anything except for being pretty on a horse (however, that is exactly what Lisa told Dayana that was all she wanted her to do). Dayana says that she was never allowed to voice her opinion, though she tried several times to make suggestions.

The VOTES are in and the men win it, 558 to the women’s 363. Now the men can go relax while the women trash each other in the boardroom. 

Lisa begins listings all of Victoria’s shortcomings: the missed cues, the inability to google, the threatening to quit. Victoria says she did a lot to work with the team. Apparently, all the work Victoria did with the costumes went unacknowledged or filmed, but Dayana agreed with her. Victoria thinks Lisa should be fired.

Both Victoria and Lisa breakdown crying in front of Donald, out of frustration. But, Donald has to make a decision. He decides that due to the missed cues and the fact that Victoria even thought about quitting the team, leaves him no choice but to tell her “You’re fired!”

An unhappy, fired Victoria

I am very disappointed and happy at the same time. I feel let down because this is not at all how I thought this was going to go. I was sure Victoria had the stuff to get ahead and succeed and she was going to leave Teresa in the dust. But, it turned out to be just the opposite. We have a TKO! Technical Knockout for Victoria and Teresa is still left standing without a mark on her. Not one complaint about Teresa in two weeks while Victoria had a laundry list full of issues. 

I am happy because now that Victoria is out, I will not be blogging this show any more. It was a lot of work because it is on the same night as Mob Wives, and my loyalty is to that show first and foremost. I thought this would be an interesting competition to blog, but I sure as hell didn’t see this ending coming, and not so soon. Maybe I underestimated the real housewives OR Victoria Gotti is not the badass mob wife I expected her to be. She whined and complained and didn’t rise to the occasion. Teresa, on the other hand, played her cards smart. She was quiet and unassuming and did what she was asked with a pleasant attitude. Even though I didn’t hear or see much of her, whatever she did kept her off the chopping block and everyone loves her and that is one sure fire way to get ahead.

Kudos to Teresa Giudice! TKO in Round 2 of Celebrity Apprentice! Congratulations and I wish you much success throughout the rest of the game!

Celebrity Apprentice: Victoria and Teresa Round 1

Let the games begin!

Well last night was the premiere of Celebrity Apprentice. I watched it just to follow Victoria Gotti and Teresa Giudice! Mob Wife versus Real Housewife, New York versus New Jersey. I am going to assess their contributions in the competition and at the end tell you who I think won round 1, although it might be obvious!

First a few details. There are 18 people competing this season, now 17. It’s set up as the men versus the women. Each group has to pick a project manager and a team name and then meet Donald in the board room for their task. On the women’s team, Teresa suggests an Italian name, “Vincitori” which means winners. No one likes it. Lisa Lampanelli suggests “Forte” another Italian word that means strong or strength, everyone loves it. Then they need a project manager and Patricia Velasquez volunteers. I was disappointed that neither Victoria or Teresa stepped up to throw their hat in the ring. I have to wonder why?

Off to the board room to meet Donald. The task is to make celebrity sandwiches and the project manager whose team makes the most money plus tips will get all the money made in this task from both teams, for their charity. The losing team loses a member.

Now they split up and the women have to decide what they are going to do next. Patricia suggests a carnival and Victoria says you need a permit in New York for that or the police will shut you down and that theme has nothing to do with sandwiches. Lisa Lampanelli says she will not disrespect Victoria, no matter what she says or does, because she has mob connections. They decide to create a Celebrity Club Room at a deli and the most recognizable person should be outside to draw a crowd to send in to buy sandwiches. That job falls on Teresa Giudice. Everyone calls up friends to donate money, however, they are all holding back because they want to save their calls for help for when they are project manager in the future.

They have lots to say, but do they deliver the goods?

At Café Metro, in the VIP lounge, the Celebrity Club room is set up. Teresa is in the kitchen making her secret recipe of red roasted peppers. While Victoria Gotti has not shown up for her team and isn’t answering her phone. I heard she slept in late, but later she claims that she had an accident with her eye and her cornea or retina was torn. I am not believing that, sorry. I want to see a doctor’s note. Everyone is a little ticked off at Victoria. A customer comes in saying he will pay $10,000 for a vegan sandwich. They have none, but Victoria quickly whips one up for $10,000 for him. No one gives her any credit for that. I thought she deserves some and that it made up for her being an hour late.

Next part of the task involves each team taking their best sandwich over to the Rachael Ray show for her to taste and pick a winner. The winning sandwich will get a bonus of $35,000. Lisa and Victoria show up with their Celebrity Club International Sandwich. However, the men’s team wins the challenge, according to Rachael.

Time to see who earned the most money. The women’s team earned a total of $126,962; the men’s team earned $332,120 plus the $35,000 bonus, bringing them up to $367,120. The men win, but it disturbs me and the women’s team too, that they got $305,000 just from one person. It’s doesn’t seem fair, but those are the rules.

Patricia has to decide which women were the weakest links on the team. She picks Cheryl Tiegs because she says she didn’t bring in any money; Cheryl disagrees. And she picks Victoria Gotti (as did a few others on the team), for not being a team player, showing up late and not answering her calls. No one said a word about firing Teresa at all. Lisa added that Victoria was heard making personal phone calls while she was supposed to be working. It’s time for Patricia to make a decision. She decides Cheryl is the weakest player and I agree.

Victoria came dangerously close to being fired on day one! No one complained at all about Teresa Giudice. Therefore, I have to say that Round 1 goes to Teresa, and Victoria comes out on the losing end. Very disappointed in Victoria Gotti. We’ll see if she bounces back next week. 

Mob Wives: Adding Victoria Gotti, Jr. To Cast

Could Victoria Gotti Ever be in Mob Wives?

Very early on in our blog, one of our readers questioned why Victoria Gotti, Jr. was not included in the cast. And recently, there has even been some discussion that a new mob wife might possibly be added to the cast. So, it seemed like a good question to me and I thought I would address it. Victoria Jr. was, up until the Mob Wives show premiered, the most well known mafia princess of our time. She is the daughter of John Gotti himself, the notorious boss of the Gambino crime family, dubbed the “Teflon Don” for escaping convictions and the “Dapper Don” for the expensive clothes he wore. Victoria Jr. even had her own reality show for a period of time, “Growing Up Gotti.” So why wasn’t she selected for the show?

Well, after watching the show and reading a lot of background information on all the families, it would appear to be impossible for Victoria Gotti Jr. to have even remotely been considered for the show. If you have been reading our blog and other articles, you may have come to this conclusion yourself.

If you recall, in the early episodes, Renee was not happy with Karen’s return to Staten Island because her father was a “rat” and Renee’s father taught her that breaking the code of Omerta and snitching, was the biggest violation of the rules of the mob. Renee was told to cut off all contact with Karen because Sammy “The Bull” became an informant for the FBI against John Gotti. This is true even though Gravano was a member of the Gambino crime family and Anthony Graziano was allegedly a member of the Bonanno crime family according to federal authorities. Being a “rat” transcends family affiliations.

Karen has revealed in interviews that John Gotti was often a guest in her home and, in fact, he was present at her Sweet 16 Party, making the event all the more memorable. So the Gravano family and the Gotti family were not only connected by the same mob family, they also seemed to associate on a personal level as well.

Sammy, who was the “Underboss” of John Gotti, was eventually was convinced by the FBI, to testify against Gotti, when they allowed him to listen to tapes of Gotti allegedly talking to authorities and implicating Sammy in various crimes. Sammy’s testimony at Gotti’s trial, lead to Gotti’s conviction and life sentence, and Gotti eventually died in prison.  Although Gravano is the one always referred to as a "rat," in his interview with Diane Sawyer, Gravano did make it clear that John Gotti was in fact "snitching" to authorities about him in order to protect himself.  This is what ultimately provoked Sammy to testify against him.

Given the history between Karen’s father, Sammy Gravano, and Victoria Jr.s’ father, John Gotti, it is highly improbable that the two women could ever work together on any project. Even if their families celebrated or socialized at one time, the day Sammy turned on Gotti had to be something the Gotti family could never forgive or forget.

BUT…

What if Victoria joined Mob Wives? What would that episode look like?

Renee: Well I’m surprised you picked this area because you know Karen lives here now.

Victoria: Karen Gravano? Are you f--king kidding me?

Renee: No, why would I kid you about that?

Victoria: Her f--king father ratted on my father!


Carla’s House: Carla on phone with Drita

Carla: Hi Drita, guess what? Renee texted me a minute ago, Victoria Gotti is at her house.

Drita: Yeah? What’s up with that?

Carla: I don’t know, but I’m thinkin’ I should call Karen and tell her to meet me there, and then I won’t show up.

Drita: But Karen ain’t gonna be happy to see Vic there.

Carla: Exactly, there will be a f--king war. That’s payback for Renee invitin’ Karen to her house for dinner and not tellin’ you about it. And pay back for Karen for disrespectin’ you and Lee with her book.  I'll bet she puts Lee D'Avanzo's picture in it!

Drita: Yeah, they did do that. She better NOT put Lee's f--king picture in her book!  Tell me what Karen says because I NEED TO KNOW, and I ain’t talkin’ to that b*tch after all her talk about a f--king timeline, that ain’t my timeline!

Carla: Ok talk to you soon.


Karen’s Apartment (phone rings)

Karen: Hi, Carla, what’s up?

Carla: Renee invited us over for coffee, I told her I was about to call you, so I would let you know. Can you make it?

Karen: What were you calling about?

Carla: Oh, ummm, Drita was telling me she is sorry she overreacted at the restaurant, she was upset about other things, and I wanted to see how you were feelin’ about it. (Damn I a good liar!)

Karen: I don’t know Carla, is Drita going to Renee’s too?

Carla: No, I just got off the phone with her, she has a thing with Aleeya.

Karen: Ok I’ll meet you there in 30 minutes.

Carla: See you there. (Dials Drita’s number)


Drita’s House (phone rings)

Carla: Just got off the phone with Karen, it’s on and poppin’ in 30 minutes.

Drita: I wish I had a f--kin’ front row seat.


Renee’s House (doorbell rings)

Renee: I have no idea who that could be, one minute Victoria.

Renee opens door…Karen walks in.

Renee (surprised): Hi Karen, I kindda have company right now.

Karen: Yeah I know, Carla right?

Renee: No, not Carla, Victoria Gotti. (Victoria enters room, sees Karen)

Victoria: You B*TCH! Your father snitched on my father!

Karen: You don’t know what the hell you are talkin’ about! YOUR father snitched on my father b*tch!

Victoria: He did not, my father would never RAT on anyone. You’re a crazy b*tch!

Karen: Oh really? Well he ratted on my dad to the Feds, and he threw him under the f--kin’ bus to save his ass.

(Renee confessional: “I’m so glad I got a front seat for this, I hope they don’t break anything.”)

Victoria: My father was the one thrown under the bus by YOUR father the RAT! Just look up your father’s name on Google and all you see is “RAT” “SNITCH” “INFORMANT” B*tch! The whole world knows what your father did!

Karen: You don’t know what the f--k you are talking about. Your timeline is off b*tch. Your father talked to the Feds FIRST and they had him on tape. Then the Feds played the tapes of your father snitching on my father for my dad. That’s when my dad decided he had to save himself from your backstabbing, double crossing, snitching, rat of a father. GET YOUR TIMELINE STRAIGHT!

Victoria lunges for Karen and grabs her hair. Karen screams and grabs Victoria’s hair. Renee removes her precious vase from the coffee table so it doesn’t get broken, then runs for cover in her spandex. Renee tweets “Huge fight in my Living Room, minime-mobettes, Karen and Victoria Gotti, hair everywhere!”

Carla reads the tweet says “No, she di-ent!” and calls Drita.


Drita’s House (phone rings)

Carla: Just saw Renee’s tweet, it’s goin’ down at Renee’s!

Drita: (laughs) Payback for Karen and I didn’t even have to take my shoes off!

Renee tweets again: “AJ walked in, saw the fight, filled a bucket with ice cold water and threw it at Karen and Victoria; FIGHT OVER!”

Mob Wives: 48 Hours Interview With John Gotti’s Family

The December 2010, in an episode entitled “Gotti: Their Father, the Godfather,” three of John Gotti’s children speak about what it was really like growing up Gotti. His two daughters, Victoria Jr. and Angel and his son Peter, talk about their childhood and their father in an open, candid interview with Troy Roberts. I found it very interesting. Victoria’s story sounds very similar to some of things I have heard Renee speak about regarding “the life.” The whole episode is about 40 minutes long filled with photos of the Gotti family through the years. Unfortunately, there was no link to embed it here so I will post the link, below the summary, if you would like to view it in its entirety.

Victoria makes three statements, and I quote: “I loved the man, but I loathed the life.” “Prosecutors say that my father was the biggest crime boss in the nation.” “If you really want to know what John Gotti was like you need to talk to my family. We lived this life.

And after hearing that you get drawn into the rest of the interview…Victoria explains that she realized, at a very young age, that her family was different from other families. Her parents tried to hide everything from their children. She says, “You grow up scared, anxious all the time.”

Peter says that he recalls that when he was a young boy he would wake up and be excited to see that his father was alive. When he heard him snore he was relieved because he knew he made it home. He didn’t know about his father’s life or lifestyle, he was just a son who loved his father.

Victoria says that her father represented what we saw in the movies; he looked the part, he acted the part, he was a real life Godfather. People showed him the highest respect, but she was angry with everyone for lying to her and as she got older and understood more, it was hard to accept his crimes.

Angel says it wasn’t like The Sopranos. They didn’t talk back to their father or ask him if he killed anyone. She now believes her father was the Boss, but she still loves him. Referring to her brother’s problems with the law, both sisters believe the FBI went after him because of their father. Angel says the children should not have to pay for the sins of the father.

Victoria wants to set the record straight. She wants people to know who and what John Gotti was. He was charged with mulitple counts of murder, but Victoria says you don’t want to believe that when you love someone. But, she says her father chose that lifestyle and knew he would have to do certain things and he didn’t care. In her book, “This Family of Mine,” she tells her story to address all the rumors, lies and gossip about her family. She talked to her father about writing a book before he died. He told her to write it as her life and asked her, “not to make me out to be an altar boy, because I wasn’t.”

The children were always protected from knowing anything about the mob. Peter tells the story of when the went to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and all his father could talk about was the roasted chestnuts and how much he loved them. Angela says her father was very funny.

Victoria says she was told that her father worked with a construction crew for a living. They believed what they were told. But she says all her father ever wanted to do was be a mobster. He was one of 11 children, raised in Brooklyn by an abusive father. He went into a life of crime and violence working for local gangsters. He saw how these men were respected and he made up his mind that is what he wanted to do.

 In 1958 he met Victoria DiGeorgio. They had a daughter Angel and in 1962 they got married. John Gotti was earning much money at all, they were struggling. Later in 1962 Victoria was born. The hospital told him he could pick up his wife and daughter when he had the money to pay the bill. They had no money. So Gotti went back at night, scooped up baby Victoria and helped his wife down the stairs and for the 13 block walk back to their apartment. It was freezing out and they had no money for a cab or even a bus. Two years later John Jr. was born, and then Frankie. Gotti spent most of his time out of the house and still there was no money. Victoria recalls that her mother and father fought a lot of the time. Her mother always feared the uncertainty.

In 1968, John Gotti was prosecuted for a hijacking at JFK airport and was sent to prison for 3 years. The kids never knew their father was in prison even when they went to visit him. Their uncle was in the same prison. Their mother told the kids he was working. Angel remembers driving to Pennsylvania to the prison and asking her mother about the big, giant wall. Her mother would say, “oh he built that wall” and Angel was so impressed that her father built that wall. She asked if her uncle Angelo helped build it. Her mother answered, “yeah him too.”

When she was 7 years old, Victoria realized she was not like the other kids. She remembers having to write an essay about who her hero was, and like most kids, she chose to write about her father. She wrote, “My dad is a construction worker and he builds tall buildings.” Then she went to the front of the room to read her essay when it was her turn. A young girl in the back of the class called out, “Her father is not a construction worker, he’s a jailbird, he’s in jail.” Victoria was taken aback and didn’t understand what the girl was talking about, yet at the same time it made sense. She remembers all the kids laughing at her. She got so upset and nervous she peed on the floor and she said she will never forget how the teacher made her get on her hands and knees to clean up the mess.

Victoria went home and asked her mother for the truth, was her father in jail. Her mother told her sometimes people do bad things and they have to pay for the things they do. Victoria asked her, “Where is my father?” Her mother looked at her and said, “he is in jail.” Those words haunted her for a very long time. The secret was out. She cried a lot worrying about her father and whether he would come home or get killed.

In 1973 Gotti was convicted of attempted murder and went to prison again. By the time Victoria reached her early teens, her father had been in prison for half her life. When he was released in 1977, Gotti became a “made man” in the mafia. He had earned it and rose up the ranks. He spent more time out of the house and on the town. His wife didn’t like it. Angel says that one time she had his armoire sent to his club. But when they weren’t fighting, they were enjoying the money he was making and living comfortably in Howard Beach, Queens.

 When Angel was 18, she was dating a guy from Ozone Park and he said to her, your father is really feared. She didn’t understand it, none of the kids saw that side of him. They all discovered their father’s reputation in their own “moments.”

Peter says he was 12 years old and had a crush for a girl at school. He asked her out. She said, “I would love to go with you, but my father said I am not allowed, your family are very bad people.” When he got home he started to cry. His mother told him “Your father loves you more than life. Forget everything else.”

In March, 1980, their 12 year old brother Frankie, was hit by a car while riding a mini bike. “Frankie Boy” as he was called by Gotti, died later that night. Victoria said her father came home later and just held his head in his hands and lost it. The driver of the car was Gotti’s neighbor, John Favara, who was very upset about the accident. Victoria claims he was driving erratically, it was no accident. She told her father, but he didn’t want to believe it and said she was wrong. She wanted revenge. Her mother went into a suicidal depression and made three attempts to kill herself after her son’s death. She was in bed for a year. In July, Gotti took the family to Florida, hoping to heal and help his wife. Three days after they left John Favara disappeared. He was abducted from work; hit over the head and thrown in a van never to be seen again. Victoria is positive her father had nothing to do with that. He may have had associates who took it upon themselves to get revenge. Angel said the thought did cross her mind that her father may have had something to do with it. The body was never found and there were no arrests.

On December 16, 1985 Gambino Boss, Paul Castellano, was killed at Sparks Steak House in Manhattan along with his number 2 man Bilotti. Gotti planned the execution along with Sammy Gravano. Within days Gotti was the new Gambino boss. The family didn’t believe what they were reading in the newspapers, that Gotti was the new boss of the Gambino crime family. They all started laughing, Angel said.

 Peter tells the story of when he was in the fifth grade and the class was discussing current events. All his friends paraded up to the front of the room to talk about his dad. They were all reporting on the articles they had read that Gotti was the new Godfather. Peter went home and cut out the article and still has it.

John Jr. was already in the family business, but it was a secret even his mother did not know. He became a made man in December 1988. Victoria thinks it was a way for her brother to get his father’s approval or make him proud. In the 1980’s the Gambinos were allegedly making 500 million a year, with Gotti allegedly getting a big cut. Victoria says the family never saw it, they never moved from their house to a mansion. But, Gotti was wearing silk custom made suits, cashmere coats, ate at the best restaurants and he loved to gamble.

Gotti kept his family life separate from his work life. In his first 5 years as boss, Gotti went to trial 3 times, but they couldn’t convict him. They allege he bribed a juror, threatened a witness and had a crooked cop on the inside, which helped he avoid prison.

He became a celebrity and the most notorious mobster since Al Capone. He also became the target of the FBI. He did all his talking “outdoors” because he suspected he was being bugged. Yet despite his precautions, the FBI got hundreds of hours of conversation on mob business. Thos tapes lead to Gotti’s arrest in 1990; there were many charges including the murder of Paul Castellano. The evidence was all in his own voice and on top of that, the FBI had the cooperation of Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, who cut a deal and testified against Gotti. He told of how he and Gotti planned the execution of Paul Castellano and that he and Gotti were there when is happened. Victoria says that her father never planned Castellano’s murder, no one is that powerful. In her book she says it was planned by mafia bosses. She doesn’t deny that he had input, but she does not believe he did it alone.

On April 2, 1992, Gotti was found guilty on all counts and he was the only one ever tried and convicted for Paul Castellano’s murder. He received life in prison. Victoria knew she had lost her father, it was like he died. Peter knew he would never see his father again. His father had to eat 6,000 meals alone. He believes his father shielded him from the mob and his brother John protected him even more. He never got involved. John Jr. became acting mob boss when he father went to prison.

Angel didn’t know her brother was in the mob until he was arrested in 1998 for extortion, loan sharking, and gambling. He had been in the mob 10 years and his mother never knew it. His mother, Victoria Sr., believe her husband had put her son at risk and wasn’t speaking to him for a while. John Jr. was facing 20 years in prison and was considering accepting a plea. He went to ask his father’s permission to take a plea and also to leave the mob. Victoria Sr. went to see her husband and told him either he releases their son or she will never speak to him or see him again.

John Gotti spent his last days in a prison hospital with his son Peter. He never admitted anything. To his family he was a “fallen hero,” to the public he was “the last Don,” to the Gambinos he was a disaster. The family was very much weakened by Gotti’s reign. John left the mob to be with his family and raise his children. Both he and Victoria do not want their children involved in “the life.” The grandchildren want to remember Gotti as their grandfather, not as a Godfather.

This interview, in my opinion, is well worth watching if you have any interest in the Gotti family. It was very interesting to get the family’s perspective of what was going on in their lives and how they viewed their father.

Mob Wives: Victoria Gotti Sr. - A Mob Wife With Class, Part 1

Victoria Gotti, Sr. is the widow of the late John Gotti, Sr. aka the Teflon Don. She was interviewed by CBS in October, 2006. I thought it would be interesting to hear the perspective of another mob wife, the wife of the Gambino crime family Boss. I was quite surprised by the video to be honest. After watching several episodes of Mob Wives and recalling the show “Growing Up Gotti,” this mob wife is definitely a refreshing change. Soft spoken, and without the use of a single profanity, she answers questions about her family in a sincere and honest manner.

When she is referred to as a mob wife, she shakes her head no. She was not a mob wife, she was “a wife, a mother, an artist.” They discuss her son’s, John Gotti, Jr’s, mistrial. When she got the call she said she cried. Having him home again meant everything to the family. She says they are a normal family. She worries that her son is “hunted prey” and that every time he leaves might be the last time she sees him. She explains that her children were brought up in a very strict home and that she is old fashioned in many ways. Her kids were punished when they did something wrong.

She will be the first to admit that her son made a lot of mistakes and he paid the price, he went to jail for seven years. But he is finished with the mob and she knows in her heart he is done. She says that the lifestyle beat him up emotionally, physically, mentally and he is gray in his early forties. The mansions people talk about are heavily mortgaged. She admits he has an income from wise investments he made, but doesn’t reveal where the money came from. And, she says, her son is an amazing father.

Victoria Gotti says she was a street kid. She had it hard, her parents separated, but it help to toughen her up for the future. She wishes she had the kind of father her son is to his kids. Her husband loved her, protected her and respected her. He would go out all day and take care of his business, but when he came home at night he left all that behind him and he never discussed it at home.

She raised her children a certain way, her daughters were raised to be ladies. Then she starts to choke back tears of anger. She says a “liar” in court said her daughter was discussing mob business with her son -- it never happened, says Mrs. Gotti. Her daughter is willing to take a lie detector test and let the person who lied do the same. It’s just an insult to her daughter to accuse her of talking mob business with her brother. She is very protective of her children.

She talks about how her husband, John, would come home for dinner and while he was eating she would look at the newspaper and then look at him and ask, “Johnny, should I be afraid of you?” and he would just laugh. He didn’t talk about the mob and she wasn’t interested in hearing anything. But some time later they would be at odds because she never wanted her son to be in the mob. She thought her husband felt the same way.

John Jr. would get into trouble over the years, she says, but she would discipline him and if her husband was around she would get between the two of them because her husband would go crazy. She insisted on doing all the discipline herself because her husband was out most of the time. She told him this was her job and if she needed his help she would ask him. And she recalls that many times her husband John would tell her that he could see that his son wanted to be in the mob and “it wasn’t gonna happen.” So, later on, when she picked up a newspaper and saw that her son was a marked man, that there was a contract out on him, she was totally blindsided. Her whole world shattered, she was stunned, she couldn’t concentrate, she was in a constant state of disbelief. She went to see her husband, who really didn’t answer her questions, but adamantly denied that any harm would come to their son.  Part 1 is about 9 minutes long.
