Mob Wives: Salvatore Sally Dogs Lombardi

Big Ang is the niece of "Sally Dogs" Lombardi

We have all fallen in love with Big Ang in season two of Mob Wives. But how is Big Ang connected to the mob? Big Ang’s uncle was a mobster named, Salvatore “Sally Dogs” Lombardi. What is his story?

Salvatore “Sally Dogs” Lombardi was a reported capo of the Genovese crime family. For a notorious mobster, there isn’t much online about him. What they do say is that he and his crew operated in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn and allegedly dealt heavily with illegal drugs. “Sally Dogs" was indicted and imprisoned in 1979 for conspiring to manufacture, possess with to intent to sell Quaaludes. In 1992, thanks to a wiretap placed in Sally Dogs home, evidence was obtained that he was trying to collect $120,000 in order to purchase a large amount of heroine that allegedly came from Spain and was stashed in Boston. The wiretap also ascertained the name of a “pharmacologist” and others involved in the transaction. The role of the pharmacologist was to test the quality of the heroine.  Sally Dogs was indicted and imprisoned for heading up a heroine ring.

While he had allegedly risen to the position of capo, it is reported that he may have been demoted to soldier for his constant involvement in drug trafficking.

Sally Dogs died in 2009.

For anyone interested in the specific deals of the 1992 case, I found a document on line that describes what took place. Here is an excerpt, followed by a link, for the entire case.

“Evidence was adduced that the leader of the conspiracy was Salvatore Lombardi, a resident of Brooklyn, and that other participants included Rita Bologna, Michael Booth, Joseph Viola and defendant. Through wiretap surveillance of the telephone line to Lombardi's residence in January 1992, law enforcement authorities discovered that Lombardi was raising $120,000 to pay a courier fee to obtain a large quantity of heroin. Lombardi's intercepted conversations cryptically identified the various players in the proposed heroin exchange, including defendant - a pharmacologist referred to as "the professor." The People theorized that defendant's role in the enterprise was to test the purity of the heroin."

You guys really know your shit and know how to get good info...that's what makes this blog so awesome :)

But why would he be demoted captain to soldier? I never heard of de-moting in the Mafia.

This is what I have read. There was a time when the mafia did not want to do business in illegal narcotics because they felt it was too risky. The article I read said he "may have been demoted" back to soldier. The mafia isn't going to announce that LOL, but if it's true it would have been to limit his power and his involvement in drug trade.

Hey you said...

very interesting piece, what happen to Bologna?
